On Thursday, the Council of Fashion Designers of America released their Model Health Guidelines for the upcoming Fall 2012 fashion week.
As reported by New York Magazine’s “The Cut” Blog, the rules are a bit stricter than in past years, requiring models to be at least 16 years old and to show I.D. proving their age (but, interestingly, doesn’t say what type of I.D.) and a pretty impressive run down of signs that indicate an eating disorder.
While, we should applaud CFDA for their efforts, isn’t the real problem the designers themselves? If designers didn’t hire underage models or models who are obviously unhealthy (in the fashion industry EVERYONE knows the models who have eating disorders, it’s not really a secret), these things would be non-issues.
