The holidays generally destroy my workout schedule and my healthy eating habits. So by the time Jan. 1 rolls around, I’m sooo ready to hit the gym and eat buckets of salad with no dressing. I’ll usually kick off my New Year’s commitment to fitness by investing in a nice, new workout top or pant — it’s an extra little motivator to ease me back into a regular exercise routine.
For that reason, I’ve been scouring the big brand sales to find just the right top. Here are my fav picks so far!
Top Picks: Workout Tops on Sale
I hit up the Nike sales first. It’s a reliable brand for me, as I like the fit and style — my newly acquired Nike joggers and sweatshirt, for example, quickly became loungewear favorites. (I’ve also had multiple people ask me about the sweatshirt, which I’m told looks like the preferred style of NBA players! Look at me, rolling like a big shot!)
This top makes my list for its loose shape and lightweight feel. Run, squat or plank in this piece without fear of getting pinched or squeezed. Long sleeves keep you protected from windchill between the car and the gym, but the top is light enough to leave on while you exercise.
Part crop and part convertible sweatshirt, this clever top gives you a side zip to manage your body temperature. I tend to start out dead cold and then warm up pretty fast — so I like tops that offer quick ventilation.
The classic track jacket is on point this season, for sure. Bold white stripes down the arms deliver a retro vibe, so you’ll feel like the coolest kid in the gym. For $40, this jacket is a steal. The only downside is I’d be tempted to wear it on the regular, even when a workout isn’t on my daily agenda.
You can show off a fun sports bra under this long-sleeve running top, thanks to its mesh back. Besides being cute, the mesh has a practical function too: it improves ventilation and breathability. This top also has an invisible pocket where you can stash your house key during that long run.
I’ve collected a fair number of light quarter- and half-zip tops over the years, because I wear them running, riding my horse or even doing mundane stuff like grocery shopping. This one comes in a great price for a long-sleeved UA top and it’s available in four bright, springtime colors. And so what if it’s not spring — bright colors lift the spirits, giving you extra mojo for your workout.
High, funnel-neck sweatshirts and hoodies are very now, so this hoodie gets you to the gym in absolute style. I doubt you’d wear this light jacket while running on the treadmill, but you could wear it outside for a hike or walk in brisk weather. And, fun fact, you can personalize this piece with your initials on Adidas.com.
No workout top collection is complete with a classic, sweat-wicking training tee. The $12 sale price on this t-shirt is compelling too — that’s better than the TJMaxx price for last year’s version. You could even pick up a couple in different colors, then plan on an extra gym visit weekly since you’ve got the gear.
