Best known as the designer behind first lady Michelle Obama’s inauguration outfit, Cuban-American fashion designer Isabel Toledo has long been considered one of fashions great talents since she conceptualized her first collection in 1985. Idenitifying herself as more of a seamstress rather than a fashion designer, Toledo’s passion in pattern making, cutting, draping, layering and sewing has given her the ability to create pieces that have interesting shapes and volumes which are structured and architectural in design. Toledo was the third recipient of The Couture Council Artistry of Fashion Award, after Alber Elbaz of Lanvin and Ralph Rucci.
