Marshalls and TJ Maxx Fall Preview is All Kinds of Good

What: Kathryn attends the Marshalls/TJ Maxx Fall Fashion Preview and gets geeked up on the fall pickins’

The Lowdown: We get invited to a lot of events, but few get our shopping juices going as much as an invite to preview the fall pickin’s from one of our favorite budget stores. And our shopping juices were “a flowin” at the Marshalls/TJ Maxx Fall Fashion Preview held at the uber chic Aspen Social Club in Manhattan.

Before I get into my review, let’s do a quick overview of how Marshalls/TJ Maxxs get their stuff: Let’s say Acme Department store orders 100 sweaters from Designer A in May for a November shipment. Fast forward six month later, Acme Department Stores decides they only need 25 sweaters, thus leaving Designer A with 75 sweaters and a fat manufacturing bill. The buyers at Marshalls/TJ Maxx offer to buy the 75 sweaters from Designer A at a substantial discount (called opportunistic buying) and then sells the same sweater to you for a hefty discount, often at the same time Acme Department store sells the very same sweater for the fulk price. Got it?

And we continue….

The one thing you will find this fall at both TJ Maxx and Marshalls is an impressive selection of leather goods. I’m not talking about 1989- Eddie-Murphy-Raw-Wilson-Leathers leather goods, but cropped jackets in butter soft leather, handbags with must have details like grommets and patterned handles, and boots in colored suede. Speaking of shoes, they have really upped their shoe game, cause let’s be honest, the whole shoe thing has been a bit of a challenge for them. Thankfully this year the buyers got their shoe game together and picked boots that are the epitome of hotness, like the pair of fold over, knee (almost thigh) high black BCBG leather boots that had my name all over them, for less than $100 bucks.

The Verdict: Do we really need to even ask this question? Hellz to the Yeah. Really looking forward to the shoe collection (I’m still haunted by the pair of  in season purple suede, Jimmy Choo boots I found at the TJ Maxx in Chelsea last fall for 50% off. Some day, my friend, we will be reunited).

(full disclosure: in high school at worked at Marshalls to pay for my Ralph Lauren Polo addiction and we often work with Marshalls/TJ Maxx on paid opportunities because I really do love the store. I received a scarf and a gift card to the store which I gave to my best friend Salimah who could write a thesis on the fine art of shopping at Marshalls.)

I absolutely adore T.J. Maxx! I could spend hours in there (and let’s face it, to find the really good deals, sometimes you have to look through a lot of so-so items) just browsing. I rarely ever leave empty handed. I am a little bummed that my local store hasn’t received a makeover. I recently visited my sister and her store has the swankiest dressing rooms I have ever seen!

The Marmaxx chain of stores (Marshall’s and TJMaxx) has been a favorite in my family across two generations, and will continue to be. I <3 TJMaxx and Marshall's.
