The Little Black Dress. We all know it’s a classic, and one that no self-respecting fashionista should be without. But is a budget version as chic as something high-end? You decide. The two looks here are timeless crepe sheath dresses—one will max out a credit card, and the other is practically pocket change in comparison.
Which is which?

On the right, a Valentino Roma wool crepe sheath dress, retailing for a breath-taking $1,495 at Sak’s. And on the left, a Laura Clement sheath from LaRedoute that will have you breathing a little easier, for just $44.99.

Mmph! I just knew the one on the left was the pricey one.

Oddly, I find the one on the left a far more beautiful, interesting, and well-designed dress than the one one the right.  Just because it’s the Little Black Dress doesn’t mean that one has to go for a dress with no detail or design!

I totally agree, if you’re a smart shopper, you can get 10 great LBD’s for the same price as one full-price one.  I love Banana Republic’s black dresses, for the designer tailoring and fabrics, especially at the end-of-season sales!

Dang, I was wrong. The one on the left has way more style. The one on the right looks too cheap! Ouch! ;-)

I knew the one on the right was the pricey one because of the fit and how well the skirt hangs.  The dress on the left doesn’t look as though it fits as well (fabric bunchy around the waist, skirt not hanging straight).  I’m having a ($99 on sale from Talbots) LBD altered and the alterations will probably cost me more than the dress, but it will be worth it to have a dress that fits me better.

I thought the one on the left was the more expensive one!  Wow, goes to show you, great design does not have to cost much!

I usually have a pretty good eye for the expensive one … but this one tricked me! I absolutely thought the Laura Clement dress was the expensive one, I was fulled by the button detailed cinching at the waist!  Good find :-)

I could tell which one was expensive just from the models! The one on the right looks a little more like high couture fashion. On another note, I got my LBD at H&M;for a lovely clearance price of $15! Ahh!
