Neiman Marcus returns made simple: Deadlines, refunds, and tips

Shopping at Neiman Marcus is always a treat. Whether you’re investing in a designer bag or picking up a timeless pair of shoes, it’s nice to know that you have options if something doesn’t work out. Here’s the latest on how Neiman Marcus handles returns, based on the official policy.

How long you have to make a return

Neiman Marcus accepts returns for most items within 30 days from the date you receive your purchase. To be eligible, your return must arrive within that window and meet the condition requirements listed below.

There’s one exception. Chanel items, including handbags, apparel, accessories, and shoes, must be returned within 14 days of receipt. The 30-day window does not apply to those products, so it’s best to decide quickly if you plan to keep them.

What Neiman Marcus will accept

To receive a refund, your item must be in saleable condition. That means it should be unworn, undamaged, and in the same condition you received it. Items also need to include their original packaging, tags, and accessories.

Certain purchases are not returnable. Neiman Marcus does not accept returns of personalized or altered merchandise, special orders, or anything marked final sale. It’s always a good idea to review the product description before you buy to see if it falls under one of these categories.

How to make a return

If you purchased an item in store, you can return it to any Neiman Marcus location within the 30-day window. Bring your receipt or proof of purchase to make the process go smoothly.

If you placed your order online, you can start a return through the Neiman Marcus website. Once you begin the process, you’ll receive the appropriate instructions for shipping your item back. Be sure to use the return label provided and package your item securely. Neiman Marcus will inspect the item once it arrives to confirm that it meets the return criteria.

How refunds work

Approved, mailed returns are refunded to the original form of payment, less a $9.95 return shipping fee. The timing can vary depending on your bank or credit card company, so allow a few days after Neiman Marcus receives and processes your return for the refund to show up. Shipping and handling charges are generally not refundable unless the item was defective or sent in error.

Approved, in-store returns are refunded as store credit.

Tips for a smooth return

A few quick tips can help make sure your return goes off without a hitch:

  • Start your return as soon as you decide not to keep an item.
  • Keep all original packaging and tags until you’re sure you love your purchase.
  • Pay special attention to the 14-day window for Chanel items.
  • Personalized, altered, or final sale items cannot be returned.
  • Neiman Marcus does not accept returns for items purchased at Bergdorf Goodman, Last Call and Horchow stores.

The takeaway

Neiman Marcus offers a straightforward return policy that balances flexibility with the standards expected for luxury merchandise. Most purchases can be returned within 30 days, and the process is simple whether you shop online or in store. As long as your item is in new condition and you act within the deadline, you can shop confidently knowing you have options if something doesn’t work out.

What about Last Call?

Last Call was Neiman’s outlet store. The store itself and lastcall.com were very popular among budget fashionistas — but apparently that wasn’t enough. This brand is now, sadly, dead.

Last Call stopped accepting returns in 2020. Today, the stores and closed and the website now forwards to Neiman’s clearance page.
