Banana Republic is reliable for classics with a touch of sophistication, but not every purchase is a keeper. The good news is that returning unwanted clothes to Banana Republic is quick and free, whether you bought it online or in a store.
Return window
You have 30 days to return or exchange items:
- For online purchases, the 30 days start from the day your order was delivered.
- For in-store purchases, the 30 days start from the purchase date.
How to return or exchange
- In stores. You can return or exchange items for free at any Banana Republic store. Just bring your item and receipt.
- Online. You can also send your item back by mail for free. Use the prepaid return shipping label or QR code that Banana Republic provides when you start a return online. You don’t need the original box; any secure packaging is fine as long as your order details are included.
Items marked “Mail Only,” items from third-party sellers, and purchases from social media shops (like TikTok or Instagram) can’t be returned in stores.
Holiday returns
Banana Republic allows an extended return window for holiday purchases. Items you buy between Oct. 15 and Dec. 24 can returned through Jan. 15 of the next year, or 30 days from delivery date for online purchases and purchase date for in-store purchases, whichever is later. You must have proof of purchase is required.
Items shipped and sold by third-party sellers are excluded from the extended holiday return policy.
What can be returned
Items must be in their original condition, which means they can’t be worn, washed, or altered. Tags should still be attached.
You can return or exchange items that:
- Are in new condition with tags
- Have not been used or washed
- Are not marked “Final Sale”
Defective or damaged items can be returned anytime.
What can’t be returned
Certain products can’t be returned or exchanged, including:
- Final sale items
- Masks
- Swimwear without original tags or hygiene liner
- Sunglasses without tags (unless defective)
- Items marked “Mail Only” that were bought online
- Rewards Marketplace items
- Items purchased from third-party sellers
Gift returns
Gifts can be returned or exchanged too.
- Gifts with a receipt or invoice will receive a gift card for the purchase amount.
- Gifts without a receipt or invoice will receive a merchandise certificate for the item’s current selling price.
Refunds and payment methods
Banana Republic gives refunds to your original form of payment whenever possible.
- Credit card purchases are refunded to the same card.
- Gift card purchases are refunded to the same or a new gift card.
- PayPal or Apple Pay purchases are refunded to your PayPal or Apple Pay account.
- Afterpay purchases can be returned in-store or by mail, and Afterpay will handle the refund directly.
- Rewards used for purchases are converted back into points and credited to your rewards account.
Refunds include taxes originally paid, and while Banana Republic issues refunds promptly, your bank may take up to 10 business days to post the credit.
Important notes
- You can’t return Banana Republic items to other Gap Inc. brands like Gap, Old Navy, or Athleta.
- You also can’t return store purchases by mail.
- Keep all purchase documentation handy, including store receipts, shipping confirmations, or original payment cards help make the process smooth.
- If you made your purchase on TikTok, you have to start the return on TikTok as well.
- Some items cannot be returned in store, including items marked as mail returns only and goods purchased on Shopify, Instagram, or Facebook.
