How to return items to J.Crew

The Budget Fashionista provides this review of the J.Crew return policy for informational purposes only. These policies are subject to change.

J.Crew keeps returns simple so you can shop with confidence. If your order didn’t turn out quite right, you have 30 days to send it back or make an exchange. Whether you ordered online or bought in-store, the process is designed to be easy and flexible, with both mail-in and in-store options available.

When you can make a return

J.Crew accepts returns and exchanges within 30 days of the original purchase date for unworn, unwashed, and undamaged items. You can return online orders by mail or at any J.Crew store in the U.S., but not at J.Crew Factory locations.

  • Online or phone orders can be returned by mail or in store.
  • In-store purchases must be returned in the same country where they were bought.
  • Final sale, monogrammed, personalized, lingerie, vintage, altered, and marketplace items cannot be returned or exchanged.
  • Marketplace purchases must be returned directly to the vendor listed on your order.

Holiday returns

Online orders made between Nov. 4, 2025, and Dec. 9, 2025 can be returned or exchanged until Jan. 9, 2026. This does not apply to orders sold and shipped by Marketplace.

Holiday refunds can take three weeks to process.

Returning online purchases

If you ordered online, start your return through the J.Crew website. You’ll get a prepaid return label that doesn’t require a printer.

When you use J.Crew’s prepaid return label, a $7.50 shipping fee will be deducted from your refund. You can return multiple orders in one package, as long as you initiate returns for each one and include all the return slips.

Refunds are sent to your original payment method once the return is processed. You’ll also get an email confirmation when the return is complete.

Making an exchange

J.Crew offers free exchanges for U.S. orders. You can exchange an item for the same style and color in a different size. This option doesn’t apply to final sale or monogrammed items. To start, go to the J.Crew website and generate a free exchange label.

Returning items bought in store

If you made your purchase at a J.Crew store, bring the item and your receipt to any store in the same country within 30 days. Refunds go back to your original form of payment unless otherwise agreed. For cash purchases, you’ll need the original receipt to receive a refund.

Gift returns can also be made in stores with a gift receipt. Those refunds are issued to a J.Crew Gift Card.

J.Crew Factory returns

If you bought something from J.Crew Factory, returns work a little differently:

  • J.Crew Factory items can only be returned to J.Crew Factory stores or through the J.Crew Factory website.
  • J.Crew Factory purchases cannot be returned to regular J.Crew stores.
  • Online and in-store Factory purchases must be returned within 30 days in unworn and unwashed condition.

International returns

For international orders, J.Crew accepts returns within 30 days of purchase. Final sale items cannot be returned or exchanged. When you start your return through J.Crew’s international returns page, their e-commerce partner, ESW, will refund you in the same currency and exchange rate used for your original order.

Return shipping fees apply for international returns, and original shipping costs are not refunded.

Returning a gift

Gifts returned by mail using the prepaid label will have $7.50 deducted from the refund amount. Refunds for gifts are issued as J.Crew E-gift Cards once the return is processed. In stores, gift returns require a gift receipt and are refunded to a J.Crew Gift Card.

Marketplace returns

J.Crew does offer marketplace goods on its website. The return rules for those purchases are unclear. It is only specified that you send the returns directly back to the seller and not to J.Crew or J.Crew stores.

Quick tip before you return

Keep your order confirmation or receipt handy until your return or exchange is finished. It helps make the process faster, whether you’re mailing a return or visiting a store.
