How to return an item to Ross

The Budget Fashionista provides this review of the Ross return policy for informational purposes only. These policies are subject to change.

Shopping at Ross can be a treasure hunt, but every now and then, you might want to return something that didn’t quite work out. Whether it’s a size issue, a color that looked different at home, or a gift that missed the mark, Ross keeps the return process fairly simple. Here’s what you need to know before heading back to the store.

Return window and condition

Ross accepts returns within 30 days of purchase as long as you have the original receipt. Items must be unused, unwashed, and in their original condition with all tags attached. If you meet those conditions, your refund will go back to the same form of payment used when you made the purchase.

If you paid with a credit or debit card, bring that card with you to receive your refund directly to it.

After 30 days

If more than 30 days have passed since the purchase, you can still return your item, but you will receive store credit instead of a refund. The same applies to items returned without a receipt.

Returns without a receipt

Ross allows returns without a receipt as long as you present a valid photo ID such as a driver’s license, state ID, passport, or military ID. In this case, the refund will be given as store credit or you can exchange the item for something else.

If your refund exceeds $50, Ross will mail a store credit voucher to the address on your ID within 21 days. Ross also uses a return verification system to track no-receipt returns, and in some cases, a return may be declined.

Other details to keep in mind

  • Items that are used, worn, or altered cannot be returned or exchanged.
  • Swimwear and lingerie must have the original ticket or tag still attached.
  • For check payments, there is a five-day waiting period before a cash refund is issued.
  • Opened software cannot be refunded but may be exchanged if it is defective.
  • Keep your gift cards and store credits safe since replacements are only possible with proof of the original receipt.
  • Ross uses a return verification system, which means they track your return patterns. Ross limits the number of no-receipt returns allowed in a set period. Once you reach that limit, the system may decline additional no-receipt refunds.

Certain product categories may require the original ticket or receipt for any return. Check your receipt or ask at the register for details.

Online and shipping details

Ross currently does not process returns by mail, and there are no shipping fees involved since all returns must be completed in-store. Refunds are only returned to the original payment method when a valid receipt is provided within 30 days. Returns made without a receipt or beyond the return window will not be refunded to the original form of payment.
