Kohl’s, the Midwest based discount department store taking a huge chunk of Target’s business, announced the launch of the a new line by MTV star Lauren Conrad and the real question is do we care?

From the Kohl’s Press Release: Kohl’s Corporation (NYSE:KSS) today announced the exclusive launch of LC Lauren Conrad, a contemporary lifestyle brand that will launch in the women’s department in approximately 300 Kohl’s stores and this October. The brand is ultimately planned to expand to all stores nationwide… “We are very excited to announce our partnership with Lauren Conrad, a pop culture icon whose style resonates with our contemporary customer,” said Don Brennan, senior executive vice president of Kohl’s Department Stores. “

I haven’t seen the line yet, so I’ll hold off any judgment in terms of style, function, etc, but….but… isn’t the whole celebrity-turned-designer-trend done? I bet you this deal was signed last year. Didn’t Lauren Conrad’s last line not do so well? And course, when we think of pop icons, LC is the first person to come to mind, right up there with Madonna, Beyonce, and Susan Boyle.

I don’t know if you guys know this, but she actually doesn’t even do any of the designs herself, she just lets them use her name….

Lauren is the only one who routinely dresses well on that show. The other girls look like they ransacked a Strawberry’s from the late ‘90s. As long as Lauren bans her friends style from infiltrating her line, I bet this will be a great success!

YAY! I’ll admit it, I’m excited. Let’s just imagine you’re the average shopper, heading to Kohls…your choices? Abbey Dawn by Avril Lavigne? Ew. Simply Vera Vera Wang? Lovely but a little old for my everyday tastes. Dana Buchman? Not ready to retire in Florida just yet. Daisy Fuentes? Um, fashion from an ‘80s TV personality? It ain’t good. That leaves us with the ELLE for Kohl’s collection which is pretty decent, and now with Lauren Conrad’s line, we’ll have some more choices that hopefully reflect LC’s personal taste, which, say what you will, the girl always looks hot!

I’m not really excited about this, her failed line was over-priced and very bland. It upsets me that if you are a reality star, you get a clothing line. Whitney Port is also jumping on this bandwagon. I agree with Deal Hunting Diva, I’m not trying to hate on Lauren, she is a hardworking girl, but she only gets this line because of the show. So many talented designers struggle for years to never see their lines picked up. Ah, I guess its just the reality of reality tv.

I’m not trying to hate on such an ambitious young woman, but her full priced line isn’t that good, so her <a href=“”>discount</a&gt; line will be even worse.

Kohl’s should pick up the Bitten line by SJP.  Since Steve & Barry’s folded, it’s needed a home.  I think it would be a good fit.

I must say. That I do care a little. Lauren Conrad usually has a pretty good sense of style. If it’s anything like her own style, it should be cute & simple. Although I’m not too sure how well the quality and cut will be..
