Best Place to Buy Budget Eyeglasses: Community Knowledge Project

**The community knowledge project is an ongoing project to gather the collective wisdom of the TBF community on a budget related topic. Please add your wisdom below.**

When it comes to eyeglasses there seems to be only two options: fashionable, designer frames that drain your wallet dry or plain-Jane, drugstore frames that look like they came right out of the movie “Tootsie.” But relief is in sight.

EyeMasters fulfilled our eyeglass wish-list: we found name brands like Nine West and Liz Claiborne, and a budget-friendly price tag of $99 for two pairs of eyeglasses. At Eyeglasses International we found designer-looking frames and trendy styles for as little as $30. And LensCrafters has a variety of frame styles in cute colors for just $100.

Where do you set your sights when searching for eyeglasses on a budget?

I set my sights on an online retailer called Clearly Lenz at, they have a good range of prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses in the $30 range.  Shipping takes about a week, so if you don’t have the time to wait, then online might not be for you.

I just ordered some glasses from the frames start at $8 and there are alot of different ones to choose from. they aren’t designer but great for some cheap ones! I also ordered sunglasses and love them! took about 2-3 weeks to get in.

I have been getting my glasses at the Factory Eyeglass Outlet—you can get a complete pair of eyeglasses for as low as $39.95. They now have a website:

I don’t know how others do it, but I can’t buy eyeglass frames without trying them on in person.  Unless I’ve tried them on in person, I wouldn’t order frames over the internet.  In terms of great deals on designer eyewear, there’s a store in San Francisco called Optical Underground that has a lot of cool, funky designer frames at discounted rates, kinda like a Marshalls for eyewear.  I’ve never been there, but have heard a lot of great things about this place.

I love those red frames! Do you think larger rounded eye glasses will really make a mainstream comeback?

You can get some awesome frames for a little over a $1 a piece…

    Hope this helps 🙂
