How to Wear Faux Fur Coats

We’re seeing fur everywhere this fall/winter — from the runways of NYC fashion week to the aisles of Tarjay (a.k.a Target). There’s many reasons why you might not want to wear a real fur: you’re allergic to animal hair, you’re broke and it’s not a good idea to spend your unemployment check on a floor length fox coat or you’re a member of PETA and the thought of wearing fur gives you the creeps. Ok, we get that and thanks to faux fur there is very little to stress about. Faux furs are warm, animal friendly, and significantly cheaper than say, a real mink coat.

Now, before you go out and buy a faux coat, memorize these rules: Keep it simple and keep it tailored — look for jackets/costs that have darting (vertical seams that run the length of the garment), which gives the coats a more tailored shape. Second, remember that fur adds bulk to your frame. If you are top heavy, go for a mid-thigh or longer coat to avoid adding bulk to an already bulky area.
