What: With footwear sales sagging thanks to the economy, a number of budget-conscious brands such as Payless ShoeSource, Mary Norton, Nina Shoes, and Cole Haan are focusing on building their wallet-friendly bridal collections. Although Payless in particular has offered dyeable dress shoes for years, the retailer is now pushing its Unforgettable Moments by Lela Rose capsule collection—which includes kitten heels, slingbacks, and strappy heels for $24 to $45—on brides who may be looking to cut costs on their wedding day fashion.

From WWD:
“There’s always going to be a buyer for bridal, and there’s always going to be a market for it,” said Patricia Pao of Pao Principle, a retail consultancy in New York. “The second a girl gets engaged, she starts looking for the dress, and shoes are the natural progression.”

What We Say: Many bridal fashions have been notoriously overpriced for years, which is why any chance to find wedding-day apparel that doesn’t break the bank is a welcome event. Price wise, Payless’ line really hits the spot for brides who looking for fashionable heels that don’t cost hundreds. Not to mention, the less money you spend on footwear the more money leftover for the honeymoon—and everyone knows that’s where the action is anyway.
