There are few things that are as functional as underwear, which can also be an expression of your fashion sense–even if you’re the only one who sees it. So we’ve picked out some of our favorite underwear brands (on a budget, of course).
Some Underwear Buying Tips
- Buy in bulk. When you’re shopping for skivvies, keep in mind that you’ll probably end up with the best deal if you buy in bulk, even in boutiques.
- Look for a cotton crotch. This comes directly from our gynecologist, a short Haitian woman who has practiced for close to 40 years (that’s a lot of va-jay-jays). We do everything she says.
- Buy flesh-colored skivvies. We’ve seen London. We’ve seen France. We really don’t want to see your underpants, so please spend a majority of your undergarment dollars on flesh-colored panties.
- Shop off-priced. Yeah, we love Hanky Panky panties as much as the next girl, but 30 bucks for a pair of underwear is simply ridiculous. Head to your local Marshalls, T.J.Maxx, or Ross (which has great undergarments) and scoop up a pair of cute undies for well under $5.

Annalynne McCord says that jeans are a girl’s favorite accessory and that every self respecting female owns a pair in half a dozen colors at the very least. Point taken, Miss McCord. We have friends who stock up the latest jean trend on the eve of every new season. Patchwork and distressed for summer, dark, jewel tones for winter.
A near omnipresent piece we noticed this season was the gray jean. The uniform of edgy hipsters a la Kate Lanphear is now hitting the mainstream and entering the wardrobes of every well versed fashionista. When talking jeans, it’s not exactly a groundbreaking piece so what you really need to focus on is cut and fit. I know this has been reiterated to death but it’s imperative unless you want to look like a sack.

Ok, so combat boots are back, and, after years of 7 inch platform heels, our feet are kinda of excited. Combat boots are extra comfortable, with heels usually under 1.5 inches, and the shoes do add a bit of tough girl vibe to any outfit. For those of you who are concerned about the emergence of this trend, fearing fellow fashionistas will abuse this trend much like they abused the UGG trend, take solace in the fact that they are now being worn in a much more tailored fashion.
