You know we love us some Michelle Obama style (check out Kathryn’s budget style retrospective on Mrs. O) so we’re all about a first look at budget-friendly pieces from one of her favorite designers, Thakoon, who’s bringing his bold prints and modern lines to Target’s GO International line at the end of the year. If you’re a Thakoon fan like Obama, this resort-focused collection doesn’t disappoint—strong floral and stripe patterns, bold color, and easy to wear silhouettes (including feminine full skirts, which we kinda love).
The line will hit the stores Dec. 28, and will only be available ‘til Jan. 31, so if you love it, you’ll want to tuck away a few dollars now to treat yourself after the holiday shopping madness has passed . . .
Thakoon Panichgul is the next designer on tap for Target’s Go International Collection. Known for his feminine take on eastern style, Thakoon’s collection for Target will be priced from $16.99-$44.99 and feature a variety of seasonal staples including flutter sleeve tees, ruffled tanks and belted shirtdresses. Stand-out pieces include a floral print canvas coat, a shibori print ¾-sleeve dress, floral print shorts and a striped pleated dress.
From the Thakoon for Target Press Release:
Thakoon for Target provides a contemporary take on classic resort must-haves for the GO International program with stunning graphic prints and a colorful palette. A blue and white shibori print and yellow and green large floral pattern update basic tees and tunics, providing a younger vibe for the breezy season. A signature diagonal stripe in blue and green is found throughout the collection and adorns a belted, blousy A-line dress, giving a refreshing edge to a relaxed silhouette. A short-sleeve hip-length cardigan in gray makes it easy to pull off the layered look; a stylish topper over a shibori print tee and black cropped pants. Swimwear in bright hues looks chic worn with a coordinating tunic in a matching print; a true statement poolside.
What: Designers Toni Hacker and Ben Harnett will launch a limited-edition handbag collection, Hayden-Harnett for Target, due to appear in stores Dec. 28.
What We Say: There’s been a flurry of activity this week at Tar-jey; after yesterday’s announcement that Thakoon will design the next Go International line for the retailer, now we know that on the handbag front, Toni Hacker and Ben Harnett are the next up in Target’s series of limited-edition designer handbag collections. No images or samples are yet available, so we’re not sure what the collection is shaping up like, but if you take a peek at the Hayden-Harnett website, you’ll get a feel for what they do. For us, their high-end bags are beautiful but quite honestly not so much different in styling than what we already see at Target (big metallic satchels and totes, chain and fringe detail). Which could mean that either their bags will fit in perfectly with the Target shoppers’ sensibility, or they might not stand out from current offerings at all. We’ll keep you posted . . .

What: Thakoon is the next designer to team with Target for their Go International designer line, with clothes to hit stores in December.
What We Say: This isn’t Thakoon’s first foray into budget fashion (he worked with Gap on a white shirt project not long ago), but we’re glad he’s decided to expand his horizons into our local Target. The designer (full name: Thakoon Panichgul) is know for bold prints and vintage-inspired but modern designs, and his Fall RTW collection was full of plaids, florals, and sleek feminine shapes. We can only hope he can bring some of that sophisticated but wearable sensibility into the hit-or-miss Go International line.
