About a month ago, we held an awesome Sex and the City contest. We can finally announce the winners and congratulate them on their fabulous prizes! Gabriela and her three lucky friends are going on an all-expense-paid trip to New York City complete with a tour of all the famous Sex and the City hotspots, all courtesy of NYC and Company, the city’s official tourism organization. Okay, we’re a little jealous, but we hope they have an amazing time!
Rosemary won a sweet VISA gift card worth 500 bucks! We congratulate her and wish her a shopping expedition that we can only dream about. The possibilities for that $500 are endless—we don’t know how she’s going to choose!

What: Patricia Field and the Home Shopping Network are teaming up on an exclusive brand called Destination Style New York, according to WWD. Starting September 23, the line, which consists of 50 pieces of sportswear, accessories, denim and dresses, will be sold on HSN and hsn.com. Designed by Field and House of Field designer David Dalrymple, the line will retail from $39 to $199.
What We Say: Finally, a place to get that already-iconic white flower dress from the beginning of Sex and the City. While we don’t plan on tuning into Patricia Field talking to us for two hours five nights a week, we will check out the website to see what other pieces are part of the collection. Not all pieces will be SATC-related and we’ll be interested in what else comes out of Patricia Field’s genius.

Of the SATC Movie wardrobe, wonderstylist Patricia Field has been quoted as saying, “it’s all about the belt”?. We touched on the belt earlier this week, but we couldn’t help but notice as we flipped through screenshots from the film that Carrie seems to favor one such belt in particular – surprisingly, this studded black belt pops up on several looks throughout the film. Who would have thought Ms. Bradshaw could glean style inspiration from 15-year-old skater boys? We kinda love the idea of pairing the downtown punk with the uptown girl—the contrast between the girlie floral and the tough leather prevents a luxe-looking day dress from coming off as too prim. We recommend trying this look for a night out (rather than a day at the office), wearing a studded belt high on the waist of a brightly-colored sheath, with a pair of killer heels (of course).
Care to test-drive the trend? The good news is it won’t set you back as much as, say, a pair of Manolos. Above, a high-end and a budget version—so which is which?
On top, a Linea Pelle version which retails for $212.50; on the bottom, a synthetic studded belt from Vegan Store, $28.95
“THESE PRODUCTS ARE NO LONGER BEING SOLD”
What kind of fashionistas would we be if we didn’t spend a little of our SATC time on the shoes? Carrie seems to be wearing lots of gladiator-style heels, which are on trend anyway, but will surely be even more so once the movie opens (that would be today). We certainly don’t have an SATC-worthy budget, so here’s a version we might actually be able to add to our closet:
Luichiny Women’s Mandy Sandal, %59.95 at Endless.com
Another hot shoe from the movie? Zebra print pumps . . . okay, nobody said Carrie was practical. They’re not so hard to wear actually—Carrie pairs hers with a floral dress, which you are welcome to do, but if that’s a little too pattern-happy for your taste go ahead and just wear them with jeans and a cute cami for a cool summer evening-out look.
Guess Women’s Carrie 8 Pump, $89.95 at Endless.com
Finally, of course, there’s the platform pump, which Carrie slips on over argyle thigh-highs. Uh, we’re thinking no—but with a full skirt, they’re very doable. We like these:
Beckie, on sale for $39.99, Bakers
Though Sex and the City is, fashion-wise, always about pushing new looks to the limit, Carrie’s signature flowers have not been abandoned so we’re expecting another wave of SATC-inspired floral accessories in the very near future. With all the focus on feminine style this spring and summer, the trend makes perfect sense anyway. To wear it, pin or clip pretty silk or jeweled flowers to you jacket, dress, handbag, or hair, and let it be the focus—meaning pare back on other accents or just go ahead and leave the rest of ‘em at home. A note: while Carrie can pull off the most outrageous of floral pieces we suggest that, in real life, the flower you choose to don should not exceed the size of your head.
Some possibilities:
Karin’s Garden Water Color Lilly with Swarovski Crystals Pin-clip, $18, Amazon.com
Karin’s Garden Elegant Silk Rose Pin-Clip, $48, Amazon.com
Other sources: eBay seems to have lots of vintage floral pins, and you can always make your own by picking up a good quality silk bloom at a craft or bridal store, attach your own pin or clip (hot glue, anyone?) and voila! DIY SATC style . . .
