News Alert: GO International Fall Collection Preview

July 29, 2008 01:00 PM | Comments (1) | Posted in plaid, go international, news_alert, fall_preview

What: The next installment of the GO International collection launches on August 31, just in time for the fall. Prices range from $16.99 to $39.99.

What We Say: Vintage romance seems to be the keywords in this collection. The patterns in this collection, like checkers and houndstooth, hearken back to to the past, while the painterly prints are modern and trendy. Pieces like vests, sweater coats, ruffle blouses all have a retro feel. We especially like the risk taken with the corduroy dress, a fabric we don’t see too often. Some of these looks could’ve been seen on the streets of 1960’s London. We’ve chosen our favorite looks and compiled them above, but there are much more to mix and match.

We like The bottom right outfit—it looks like a two-tone dress, but it’s actually two pieces—the shirt is a funnel necked top ($22.99) and the skirt is black and white plaid ($26.99). Which one is your favorite look?

Express.com: Their Take on the Trends

July 16, 2008 01:30 PM | Comments (1) | Posted in express, news_alert, summer_trends

Only recently has Express.com jumped on the “online shopping” bandwagon. For as long as we can remember, we all had to get to our local mall to shop at Express. Okay, so they are in practically every mall, but we were never able to pre-shop from the Web. In honor of Express’s discovery that, hey, there’s more customers to be won over on the Web, we’ve explored their take on hot summer trends.

Tie Dye
The colors on this sleeveless dress shirt are very, very bright, but it’s in keeping with the tie-dye trend we’ve observed. Definitely pair this top with plain denim or trousers. Now $41.65.

Florals
This beautiful dress (pictured) almost belongs in the tie-dye category, but look closely and you’ll realize those are actually flowers. Big, painterly, not-found-in-nature flowers, but they are in keeping with this trend nonetheless. $98.00.

Fringe
Dress like a flapper for a night in this skirt—you won’t stop twirling in it. This fringe skirt is made for dancing. $48.65

This Just In: Sequel to Sex and the City in the Works

July 11, 2008 04:30 PM | Comments (4) | Posted in designer, news_alert, sex_and_the_city

What: Plans for a second Sex and the City movie are in early development, according to Entertainment Weekly. Discussions have begun, but there are no concrete deals nor a script.

What We Say: The characters’ lives wrapped up perfectly in the first movie that we didn’t realize a sequel was even a possibility. We’re excited. But since nothing is definite yet, we’re not letting our hopes get too high—it’s not even on IMDB yet. But the prospect has already jump-started daydreams and fantasies about the clothes, the shoes, the purses, all of which would naturally have to trump the fashion in the first movie, if that’s even possible.

Do you think this is a bad idea? Will the character’s lives become too far fetched if their stories continue to a second movie?

—Richard Chai is the 12th designer to create the next collection for Target’s GO International Program. His contemporary dresses, skirts, blouses and more will be available to Target customers (which, by now, should be all of us) starting August 3 and it will be around for most of August. Prices range from $12.99 to $79.99.

—Accessories designer Dean Harris will be the third to launch a limited edition jewelry line. Her pieces, most of which are nature-related, will be around from August 17 to December 26. The Dean Harris for Target collection ranges from $19.99 to $99.99.

What We Say: We thought we’d be spoiled by Anya Hindmarch and Sigerson Morrison designing for Target, but boy, the designer goods lavished upon us, the bargain shoppers, never end. We’ve stared at the images above for about five minutes, and we cannot tell that it all costs less than $100. We’re excited—Botkier for Target hits stores in only 10 days!

Pictured: A compilation of pieces: Clothes by Richard Chai, purses and wristlers by Monica Botkier, and jewelry by Dean Harris.

What do you guys think of the pieces above? Are you as pleasantly anxious as we are?

News Update: Steve & Barry’s Files for Bankruptcy

July 9, 2008 07:30 PM | Comments (3) | Posted in news_alert

Last week, we reported that Steve & Barry’s was in danger of full liquidation. Unfortunately, they’ve filed for bankruptcy today, according to the Chicago Sun-Times . Along with filing for bankruptcy protection, the company was forced to close offices and fire 172 employees. The stores will continue to operate because of an agreement with its secured lenders. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the co-founders, Steve Shore and Barry Prevor, blame “slower sales and high fuel and materials costs” as the ultimate reasons for bankruptcy.

Let us know what you think!

News Alert: Sheryl Crow, Denim Designer

July 8, 2008 07:30 PM | Comments (1) | Posted in celebrity fashion, denim, news_alert, eco friendly

What: Sheryl Crow is designing a clothing line consisting of jeans, t-shirts, and other laidback styles that jive with Crow’s persona as a rocker chick, according to Styledash. This line is a bit different from your standard celebrity designs, however—it’s eco-friendly. The line will be called Bootheel Trading Co. by Sheryl Crow.

What We Say: All we wanna do is…find out when and where we can check out these new clothes. We never knew Sheryl Crow to be a fashionista, but since we’ve secretly wanted to cruise and see the sun come up over Santa Monica Boulevard, we want to try on this vintage-inspired wear and see if we feel any hipper. We love the fact that it’s eco-friendly, too. We’re all about helping out the environment and looking great at the same time.
