The Bib Necklace: Spring 09 Accessory Trend

March 31, 2009 01:00 PM | Comments (3) | Posted in accessories, spring fashion 2009, necklace, new trend

“SOME PRODUCTS ARE NO LONGER BEING SOLD”

Hate the name (do grown women really want to wear a bib?), love the accessory. Why? Because with something as bold as a “bib” necklace, you really don’t need much else to be eye-catching. Can you do it on the cheap? Would we bother writing about it if you couldn’t? Of couse not. We’ve rounded up a few budget pieces that are as fab as anything we’ve seen on the runway, for pennies on the dollar (or less) . . .
One caveat—whatever you do, be sure the neckline of your top is simple, simple, simple, and cut to frame the necklace or lay unobtrusively flat underneath—anything else will look sloppy and detract from what could be your signature piece for the season.

1. Stone Drape Necklace, $12.80, Forever 21
2. Chain Maille Necklace, $8.80, Forever21
3. Colorful Bib Necklace, $34, Urban Outfitters
4. Wrap Link Bib Necklace, $19.99, Target.

Women: Women's Short Gumball Necklaces - Light Blue

While trolling the Web, we’ve hit upon some pretty interesting topics. Here is a sampling of what’s floating around in the ether of the Internet!

—The Budget Babe examines the idea of wearing non-white bridal gowns. Two celebrity fashion icons, Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwen Stefani, both defied tradition and wore different colors to their weddings. She notes that choosing a colored gown immediately lowers the cost. What do you guys think? Is it a passing fad, or a growing phenomenon?

—SheFinds tells us about a contest from Coach: design graphics to go on a Coach tote, and if you win, you’ll be rewarded with a shopping spree, cash, and your design will be brought to life.

—Styledash introduced us to an adorable gumball necklace, from Old Navy. We love its retro feel, and the array of bright colors to choose from instantly brings a smile to our faces.

Fashion Trend: The Statement Necklace

“THESE PRODUCTS ARE NO LONGER BEING SOLD”

Recently we reported on the charm necklace —you know, sweet, pretty, delicate—and this week, the necklace trend? The bold, flashy, splashy statement necklace. Which could either be a major contradiction or just an indication that, style wise, this season you have plenty of freedom of expression. We’re going with the latter . . . Just remember, it’s all in the name. The necklace makes the statement, so the rest of the ensemble should provide a simple, chic backdrop. And make sure the size of the necklace is in proportion to the rest of you, so as not to get overwhelmed by the hardware around your neck.

Pieces we like:

Triple Strand Leopard Beaded Necklace, $19.99, JC Penney (pictured above)

Subversive for Target Cameo Multi-Row Necklace, $59.99, Target.

Ribbon Necklace with Block Stones, $12, Twelve by Twelve
