Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse: Product Review

What: Angela tries to even things out with Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse
The Lowdown: While we’re busy changing up our fashion with the change of seasons, we need to remember that our make-up needs changing up as well. Heavier, creamier foundations that were fine (even preferable) in the dry winter months will do nothing but weigh us down as the summer heat sets in—which is why now seemed like a good time to lighten up by trying out Maybelline’s Dream Liquid Mousse. Boasting a lightweight “air-whipped” formula that’s oil-free, the product goes so far as to claim an “air-brushed” “poreless” finish. As a girl with oily skin and, well, largish pores, this is a selling point.
So does it live up to such lofty claims? I mean, “poreless”? How is that possible? As it turns out, it’s not. At least not in my case. The make-up did go on smooth, and has a light texture and a nice matte finish, but the pores, alas, just weren’t having it (being hidden and all, that is). So if the “poreless” part is what draws you to this product, I wouldn’t get too excited. If you’re looking for an inexpensive foundation that is light enough for summer and reasonably priced? Perhaps.
The verdict: Because (for me) it didn’t live up to its claim, it’s a nay, even if it is under 10 bucks. Sorry Maybelline—we still love your Great Lash mascara though.

Product Review: Maybelline Mineral Power Naturally Luminous Blush in Gentle Pink

What: Robin tries to recapture her youthful glow with Maybelline’s new Mineral Power Naturally Luminous Blush in Gentle Pink, $7.99.

The Lowdown: Mineral makeup seems to be the new way of thinking for many cosmetic companies. Wet ‘n Wild, Revlon, e.l.f. and Almay are just some of the names going au mineral. Not to mention Maybelline, who now offers a bevy of beautiful pink blushes. Having chosen Gentle Pink, the brightest shade of the lot, I was worried it would look too clownish. The blush, which you must tap upside down before unscrewing the cap, empties through the slotted holes of the container, and allows you to tap your blush brush in it for a modest amount—the minerals are fairly concentrated in color, so you don’t need a lot. Upon application, I noticed this shade gave me a naturally flushed look, and stayed on throughout the day. It also has a light consistency and makes you look like you hardly have anything on your skin at all.

Yea or Nay: Yea. This is a great new must-have for any pink blush fan.

Buy It: @ Wal-Mart.

Maybelline Dream Matte Pressed Powder, $7.99

What: Tara reviews Maybelline Dream Matte Presses Powder, $6.49

The Lowdown: There has been a lot of hype about this pressed powder, but my expectations were low because I didn’t find the Dream Matte foundations or blushes all that enjoyable. I picked this up to keep in my purse as a backup, and it ended up winning me over so hardcore that I went back to buy two more (one can never have too many compacts).

This powder goes on like a dream and sets your makeup without making your face look cakey or dry. It’s very finely milled and has excellent pigmentation for buildable coverage. And the true test, how long did the shinies stay away? I spent the better part of a stressful work day shine-free, which is a rare and beautiful thing. Tip: use a powder brush instead of the packaged puff if you want that flawless finish.

Yea or Nay: For the price, you can’t find a better pressed powder.

Buy it: @ Drugstore, Target, Walgreens, etc.
