FREE Mani or Pedi from Herbal Essences

June 6, 2008 09:00 AM | Comments (0) | Posted in coupon, free, shampoo, manicure, pedicure, conditioner, herbal essences

The Deal: It’s simple: Purchase two specially marked Herbal Essences shampoos or conditioners or one of their hair coloring kits, enter the UPC codes online here, print out the redemption form, send ‘em in along with the receipts from purchase, and in 4-6 weeks you will get a voucher for a free manicure or pedicure at a participating beauty salon.

The Lowdown: The wait seems long, but do it now and you’ll get your pedicure in time to go to the beach and not be afraid to wear flip flops. I wish the deal was for a free manicure AND pedicure—it’s going to be a difficult decision for me. Herbal Essences’ shampoos and conditioners have changed a lot over the years (remember those steamy shower commercials?) but their products are dependable, so at least you’re buying products you’re actually going to use.

Best Nail Polish Under $10: Reader Advice

If you spend a buck on nail polish, you’re going to get what you pay for. But even spending more doesn’t always guarantee a decent finish that’ll hold up—and there’s nothing that’ll kill your style vibe quicker than busted up polish. We’ve always had good luck with OPI, which can be had for less than $10 (like here on drugstore.com), and generally lives up to its salon reputation. But what are your picks for best polish under $10 (especially ones you can get at the corner drug store)?

Beauty Trend: Matte Gray Nails

December 22, 2007 01:00 AM | Comments (2) | Posted in beauty trend, manicure, nail color, Beauty Trend

What: Nails that looked like they were dipped in concrete are tres chic overseas and soon to become the new silver State-side.

What the experts say: It’s official: In the January 2008 issue of Oprah magazine, there is a big picture of a hand model showing off her gray manicure. “We’re in a time of big changes in the world and basics (like gray) represents stability,” says Leatrice Eiseman, author of More Alive with Color and Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “You’re making a statement about being a bit offbeat.”

What we say: At first, we thought it was the ugliest thing we ever saw, but after a bit, it kinda grew on us (since we recently reported about the gray eye shadow trend, we thought it makes sense.) It’s definitely a conversation piece and if it’s a light enough shade of gray, it could even pass for a dull lavender. While we came across a million silver polishes on our quest for matte gray, it is still a difficult shade to find. ManGlaze recently debuted their Matte Grey Color at a hardcore punk festival in Japan, which is available for $6.66. You know what they say, though; everything is big in Japan.

Reader Tips: Preserve that Manicure

TBF reader Ronica sent me tips products she uses to preserve her manicures:

Sticky (that’s what it’s called) base coat ($5.99 at your local drugstore).  A coat or two of this and my polish lasts WAY longer.

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat ($9.99. Gives a glass-like shine, makes polish last much longer, and dries it with in a minute or two. This stuff is gold!)

Have a cool tip? Please feel free to send it along.
