What: Angela smooths on Carmex’s new Healing Lotion and Healing Cream
The Lowdown: Carmex — which took skin care to a level waaay beyond waxy Chaptstick with it’s little tubs of smoothness back in the late 80s/early 90s — has joined the ranks of those looking to diversify, with a new Healing Lotion and Healing Cream for the other 99 percent of your skin.

What: Now, here’s a scary study. The Mount Sinai School of Medicine has found that chemicals in beauty products like makeup, lotion, nail polish, and even shampoo, can hurry up – or delay – puberty in young girls. More than a thousand 6 to 8-year-old girls were studied.
What They Say:
“Our research shows a connection between chemicals that girls are exposed to on a daily basis and either delayed or early development,” she said. “While more research is needed, these data are an important first step in continuing to evaluate the impact of these common environmental agents in putting girls at risk.”
What We Say: We’re not sure if a follow-up study will confirm these findings or not, but we sure hope one does, because this is pretty serious stuff! In the meantime, since phenols, phthalates and phytoestrogens are the specific chemical culprits here, look for such ingredients on any beauty product you plan to give to a young girl. Or here’s an even better idea: don’t give beauty products, especially makeup, to a 6-year-old.
