Lindsay Lohan “Advises” Ungaro: Fashion is Officially Dead

September 9, 2009 06:37 PM | Comments (1) | Posted in celebrity fashion, celebrity fashion line, lindsay lohan

What: In what may be the most baffling fashion news since the re-emergence of Hammer pants, professional celebrity Lindsay Lohan has joined the fashion house Ungaro as it’s “artistic adviser”, in an effort to help the brand appear “younger” and overseeing the houses main desginer, Estrella Archs.  The new collaboration will premier during Paris Fashion Week on October 4th.

Lindsay told WWD:

“When I’m involved in a project, I give my all to it,” she said. “...I’ve always played a big part in what I wear, the costumes. Clothing is something that’s so expressive in so many ways…To be in a position where I’m working with a fashion house in Paris sets it apart from every other celebrity brand.”

What We Say: Are things so bad for fashion houses that they’re now hiring celebrities to promote, opps we mean “design” lines for them. Wasn’t she suppose to be designing a line of $30 leggings? Does anyone even find Lindsay Lohan fashionable? Also, what qualifies Lohan to “oversee”, the house’s designe Archs? With an acting career that has been lukewarm as of late, perhaps she should focus on “overseeing” her career.

P.S. I do love her hair…

Lindsay Lohan: Look for Less

July 10, 2008 09:00 PM | Comments (0) | Posted in look_for_less, fourth_of_july, holiday fashion, lindsay lohan

Er, due to extreme overexposure, Lindsay Lohan is not our typical first choice for a look for less feature; however, having recently witnessed many, many women marking the Fourth of July holiday by dressing up as their very own version of the American flag, we zeroed in on this particular look as a way to do festive casual summer dressing without confusing people into saluting you. Horizontal stripes are still hot, and we like how she’s incorporated a couple different shades of blue (in lieu of the whole hard-to-pull-off red, white and blue combo). And yes, we realize the Fourth is past, but there’s no reason you can’t bring a little of its style inspiration into all those other summer BBQ’s on your social calendar . . . and here’s how, for less:

Women’s Striped Rib Knit Tank Top, $10.50, Navy Stripe

Linen Cuff Short, $17.80, Forever21

Hudson Hobo, $15.99, Payless

Fashion Advice: The Great Fake Debate Continues

Q: How do you buy a knock-off hand bag? What are your guidelines, what are smart prices to pay? What is important to look for? I want to be able to have nice handbags but not be broke because of them!

A: There has been quite a bit of debate regarding knock-off bags (especially fake Louis Vuitton handbags) and the impact these bags have had on the fashion industry. Exact duplicates are not fair to the designers, period. Imagine spending years perfecting your art and name, only to have some steal your idea and sell it for well below market value. However, using elements of a popular design is nothing new in fashion. Every major and minor design house “borrows” design elements from other fashion designers and lower priced stores like H&M often sell items using a design made popular by more expensive designers (I call it “designer inspired” items). The difference between “knock-offs” and “designer inspired versions”, that the designer inspired versions don’t claim to be the real thing.

When looking to buy a knock-off you have to ask yourself, do I want it because the celebrity of the moment has it or do I want it because I truly like the designer and the bag. If the later is your answer, skip the rest of this article and save your pennies (nickels, dimes,) to purchase a real bag. However, if the reason why you want it is because Nicole Ritchie, Lindsay Lohan, or whatever celebrity of the moment has the bag, then I suggest you really think about why you’re buying the item (and why you feel the need to emulate an idea that isn’t real in the first place—celebrities often get those items for free). Buying a designer bag isn’t going to make you Jessica Simpson.

If it is quality you want—rarely are knock-offs good quality—then look for high quality, mid-priced bags from designers like Coach, Hype, Kenneth Cole, Donna Karan, Cole Haan, etc. You’ll find these bags for up 75% off at stores like Nordstrom’s Rack, Marshalls, T.J. Maxx, and their outlet stores.  Furthermore, designer label doesn’t always equal quality.  For example, a very famous designer makes a nylon bag that just because it has its label on it retails for over $300. You could buy the same bag, same quality for around $30 at your local T.J. Maxx.

Fall 2006 Fashion Week Has Begun: Let’s All Rejoice

International press. Tons of celebrities. Kimmora Lee Simmons. Fall 2006 Fashion Week has officially begun.

This week my coverage from the tents will be sporadic as I’m suffering from a very unfashionable ailment that makes me both bitter and extra judgmental—thus leaving me with zero tolerance for nasty publicists clad in black and pseudo celebs. And, since this is like my 8th fashion week, I’m officially excused from going to the tents everyday. To be perfectly honest, fashion week has really lost its mystique for me—sort of like going to Disney World as an adult. I’m sure the folks at 7th on Sixth are happy about my reduced appearance—they weren’t too jazzed about my previous coverage from the tents (I mean, really, Kelly Osbourne as a fashion designer?).  Apparently, the fashion powers that be aren’t too happy that I tell you not to spend $500 on a pair of khaki shorts and rag on the absolutely ridiculous (but highly entertaining) world of popular fashion. But it doesn’t matter, cause I got my ways and I was able to score some invites to some very interesting shows that make me want to jump out of my sick bed and head to Bryant Square.

By all accounts, it doesn’t seem like I’m missing much . . . not like the time Mrs. Simmons dissed the most fashionable man to ever don a velour track suit, Andre Leon Talley, or lights falling fashion editors/writers. The shows are still more about celebs and less about designers and fashion (unless the designers happen to be celebrities). I mean, what does Lindsay Lohan walking down a runway have to do with raising awareness of Heart Disease in women? The press coverage I’ve read about the Heart Truth show (NY Post, NYT, and various bloggers) has focused more on the fact that Ms. Lohan broke out of rehab long enough to strut down the runway in a fabulous Calvin Klein frock, than on the devastating impact of a very serious disease on women’s health. I wonder how many people outside of the fashion/entertainment world, even knew that the show even exists?

See, I told you I was bitter. Stay tuned for more
