What: Lauren Conrad wasn’t kidding when she said she was coming back to fashion. While her previous line folded, the Lauren Conrad LC collection is now available for sale on Kohls.com.
What They Say:
The collection features tops, bottoms and dresses for $20 to $60. LC’s collection are wardrobe basics like jeans and knits, so don’t expect anything fancy or ‘designed”, some pieces feature stripes and prints, that’s about it.
What We Say: We really love the LC Lauren Conrad Watercolor Ruffled Dress, but we don’t love its $60 price tag. Still, there are other more affordable options - like this $20 seamless camisole - but none are all that interesting. In fact, one would expect something a little more vibrant to come out of such a young, “hip” designer. What do you think of the line?
Kohl’s, the Midwest based discount department store taking a huge chunk of Target’s business, announced the launch of the a new line by MTV star Lauren Conrad and the real question is do we care?
From the Kohl’s Press Release: Kohl’s Corporation (NYSE:KSS) today announced the exclusive launch of LC Lauren Conrad, a contemporary lifestyle brand that will launch in the women’s department in approximately 300 Kohl’s stores and Kohls.com this October. The brand is ultimately planned to expand to all stores nationwide… “We are very excited to announce our partnership with Lauren Conrad, a pop culture icon whose style resonates with our contemporary customer,” said Don Brennan, senior executive vice president of Kohl’s Department Stores. “
I haven’t seen the line yet, so I’ll hold off any judgment in terms of style, function, etc, but….but… isn’t the whole celebrity-turned-designer-trend done? I bet you this deal was signed last year. Didn’t Lauren Conrad’s last line not do so well? And course, when we think of pop icons, LC is the first person to come to mind, right up there with Madonna, Beyonce, and Susan Boyle.
Lauren talking about her line:
What: MTV “reality” star Lauren Conrad launched a line in 2007 that we had mixed reactions about. It managed to stick around for a few years. However, Lauren won’t put out any more collections and instead will “revamp her line and design with more high-end fabrics.”
What We Say: Sounds like Lauren’s backing out of designing altogether - after all, it’s her last season on “The Hills,” the show that allowed her to be a designer in the first place. (Or you could go as far back as “Laguna Beach.”) Anyways, no one in the industry has ever taken her seriously and considering she’s selling a simple top for a whopping $150, she’s just becoming more and more irrelevant.
If she does come out with a new line as promised, why would she go for more high-end fabrics? Doesn’t that just mean her $150 tops will cost more like $200?
Checkers and gingham have been updated with bright colors and modern cuts—meaning they’re no longer relegated to the farm. The trends been spotted on Reese Witherspoon, Ashlee Simpson and Lauren Conrad, and we have to say, they all look pretty cute and comfortable in their loose, button-down shirts and jeans. The bright color trend of the summer, of course, is translated to the checker trend, but you can go with the classic black and white if you want to keep it traditional. You can wear the checkered shirt with jeans like Reese, or other bottoms like skirts, twill pants, and even khakis. Checkers don’t have to be relegated to tops though—we like it on dresses, purses, socks, and more. Just make sure to limit your checkers to one piece, or you’ll look like the tiled floor of a 1950’s diner.
Rock Steady Checker Picnic Halter Top dress, via styledetox.com, $49.99. This pink and white dress is a blast from the past, complete with a full skirt and a smart collar.
GAP sleeveless checkered ruffle top,, $34.99. The pattern on this shirt is more subtle, since the ruffles already add a sweet embellishment.
GAP checkered popover dress, $58.00. We’d throw this on every day if it wasn’t a fashion faux pas—we can pair it with all sorts of accessories!
The checkered racerback tank from Forever 21 ($9.80) channels the rockstar vibe that checkers can sometimes give.
We’ve written about the popularity of scarves already—“check” this one out from Urban Outfitters, $24.00. It’s in the men’s section, but who will know? Wrap it around your neck, your head, or loop it through your purse.
This checkered canvas tote comes in pink, green, or black. If you’re a fashionista who takes baby steps into a trend, check out this bag, since the pattern isn’t as intense. $38.95.
“SOME PRODUCTS ARE NO LONGER BEING SOLD”
Like it or not, reality TV star Lauren Conrad (of The Hills fame) is a stylista to watch—and her look, we have to say, is usually spot on. It’s a youthful vibe, but with classic accents and without all that super-fad-conscious nonsense. As the weather warms up, we like this fuss-free look—a neutral sundress, white handbag, and very LA shades. Hard to go wrong with that; here’s how you can get it, for less:
Sunglasses: Wet Seal, $7.50
Handbag We removed this because the bag sucked (thanks Roxy for the heads up)
