FabSugar finds an affordable alternative to the swoon-worthy Stella McCartney Mesh Sandal (approximately $600) for just $139 - the Bebe Lizzy Mesh Sandal.  Not quite the same, but close enough, and far more wallet friendly.

Lemondrop has a delightful new obsession; the Sothy’s Delicious Scrub, a yummy wonder-scrub that revitalizes winter skin and even replaces shaving cream.  Little bit pricey though; $44.

Omiru finds an affordable, adorable detail for any wardrobe; the J Crew floral bouquet sash belt, for $35, a sophisticated and versatile accessory.

loro piana cashmere

Direct from a staff member at Loro Piana, the high, high end cashmere shop: Turns out that the cashmere sweaters at J. Crew (on sale now for $98.00), described as made of “the very best: luxurious cashmere from a world-famous mill in Quarona Italy” are being made in the Loro Piana plant by Loro PIana, using Loro Piana cashmere. The difference between the two sweaters? About $1000...

Michelle Obama Fashion: A Budget Style Retrospective

“SOME PRODUCTS ARE NO LONGER BEING SOLD”

One day you walk into your local Gap store to pick up a pair of size (insert your size here) jeans. After smiling at the overtly cheery folder/greeter/loss prevention associate, you head over to the denim wall to find your jeans. All of a sudden, 10 large men, wearing tailored dark suits accessorized by white ear plugs, rush into the store, causing a tower of cherry red wool/cashmere blend ribbed turtleneck sweaters to tumble to the floor (they also block the fitting room). Unaware of what is going on, you start to shake so hard that a pair of your (insert size again) jeans fall to the floor. As you bend over to pick it up you glance at a fabulous pair of Lanvin wedge ballet flats and the hem of an amazing pink and black floral printed swing skirt that you recognize from the Summer 2008 sales rack of your local J.Crew. You quickly grab the jeans from the floor and stand up to find yourself face to face with our new first lady, Michelle Obama.

Michelle Obama Fashion: A Budget Style Retrospective

At any other point in US History the likelihood of the above scenario happening to you would be, well, zero.  However, unlike other stylish first ladies, Michelle Obama actually wears items from lower-priced, mall-based stores like J.Crew and Gap. She even wears them more than once Michelle’s love for the mall based store is so profound that her 6 year old daughter Sasha, unaware of the political filters put on her parents and telling it like only a six year old can, exclaimed “Mommy buys everything from the Gap”.

Regardless of your political stripes, there’s something quite comforting about a first lady who knows her way around an H&M (and has had to wait in those crazy long fitting room lines). In light of our current economic situation, this knowledge is even more valuable.

J Crew Final Sale

“THESE PRODUCTS ARE NO LONGER BEING SOLD”

I must admit that this spring J.Crew has some pretty cute things. I’m in love with their knit floral dresses, flirty cotton skirts, and wide legged cotton pants. I’m not, however, in love with their prices. So the only time you’ll ever see me shopping at J.Crew is during their final days sale, which is currently happening right now. I’ve had my eye on the Josie dress (shown above in Cabana Blue), originally $130.00, now $49.99, which is the perfect dress for a summer casual wedding or dressy picnic.

J Crew Final Sale starts today. All sales are final, no exchanges, no returns (yuck!).

Yea or Nay:  J.Crew’s New Store Madewell 1937

January 15, 2007 10:34 AM | Comments (35) | Posted in j crew, piperlime, madewell 1937, Piperlime

What’s up with our favorite stores doing all of these questionable brand extensions? First, Gap, Inc brought us the Anne Taylor competitor Forth and Towne (GOOD). Then our friends at Gap, Inc brought us the Piperlime shoe site (BAD).  Now everyone’s preppy favorite, J.Crew, has a new concept store called Madewell 1937 which is like a cross between Eddie Bauer and Forever 21.

I’m not sure why J.Crew feels that they need to do a “younger” line, especially one full of styles that any teen can scoop up at their local Abercrombie for much less. $100 bucks for a pair of jeans? $150 bucks for a dress? Uh.. No! And the name… Way too complicated… How about just Madewell?

Now in all fairness, I’ve only seen the press materials and have yet to go to one of their stores,  (only two locations- Northpark Center in Dallas and Century City in LA), but I still think that J.Crew should just stick with being J.Crew.

Madewell 1937- Yea or Nay?

P.S. If you live in Dallas and LA, check out the stores and report back to us in the comment section.
