What: The luxury haircare brand Frédéric Fekkai wants you to make the switch. The company is hosting a “Shampoo Swap” day at Saks Fifth Avenue stores across the country on September 17th, asking women to trade in any bottle of full sized shampoo for a completely free 8oz bottle of the company’s new Fekkai Advanced shampoo, which normally retails for $23.
What Frédéric Fekkai Says:
“The promotion is part of the exciting launch of Fekkai Advanced, the newest incarnation of luxury hair care from Fekkai. The Fekkai Advanced collection redefines the original Fekkai product families, elevating them to a new level with improved technologies, textures and fragrances for an experience like never before.”
What We Say: Does hair really look better when it’s washed with designer shampoo? Now’s your time to see for yourself. Pretty much everyone has an old bottle of shampoo sitting in the bathroom, and now is the perfect chance to throw it out and get a new bottle of Fekkai Advanced in its place—for free. And really, who turns down free beauty products? Not us!
Nothing in life is free - or is it? When perusing the web for free stuff, you’ll find yourself in a never-ending abyss of half-truths. Sure, you can get a free $500 gift card to Macy’s - but first you have to subscribe to Netflix for five months! You know the drill. Well, there are some select freebie sites that not only feature 100% free attire and accessories, but also are easy to make sense of and navigate. We’re serious; no hidden costs, no selling your soul to the devil…just really cool, really free stuff.
SilverJewelryClub.com
This sounds-too-good-to-be-true site features four free pieces of sterling jewelry at a time, with new items popping up every 15 minutes or so. Rings, earrings, and pendants are the main offerings. And they’re truly free (besides the cost of shipping and handling, that is). The catch? Well, there really isn’t a catch. The jewelry manufacturers behind the site - Peoria.com - just hope you’ll fall in love with their craftsmanship, and spread the word to other would-be customers. Now that’s the kind of marketing we can all appreciate.
Craigslist.org
You could very well furnish your entire apartment for $0 with Craigslist. Narrow down to your city from the main home page, and check out the “free stuff.” Browse recent listings, or search for specific items of clothing. If you don’t mind hand-me-downs, then you’re liable to find some pretty amazing additions to your wardrobe here.
SwapStyle.com
It’s the self-proclaimed Online Fashion Swap Party, where fashionistas from around the globe gather to give and get. Although you must pay $10 to join (in order to become ‘address verified’), using the site is totally free from then on. If you’ve got clothes you no longer want or need - and we’re fairly sure you do - then don’t give them away to Goodwill just yet. See if you can trade them in for something better here. Accessories, shoes, cosmetics, and general apparel are all available on the site.
FreeCycle.org
Similar to Craigslist, the much-loved FreeCycle simply connects people who have stuff to give away to people who want stuff in the same communities.
Thunderfap.com
It’s a super mixed bag here, but definitely worth checking out from time to time. From free sample packs of toiletries to free tacos at Jack In the Box, you just never know what you’re going to get - there is a “Sample Clothing” category you can investigate, but it’s slim pickings at the moment.
WeeklyFreebie.com
As you might have guessed, WeeklyFreebie has one batch of free offers per week. Maybe you’ll discover a free museum pass or set of Ziploc bags. There’s no telling what kinds of goodies you can score here, so check back every week if you’re dedicated to saving as much cash as possible.
FreeMania.net’s Freebie Gator
FreeMania is in its own right, a well-known freebie site, but its freebie aggregator - or “gator” - is especially handy. In a jiffy, find out what’s being give away on top sites like FatWallet.com and Freebies 4 Mom.
Wal-Mart’s Sample Site
Saving you money - Wal-Mart’s at it again! Right now, you can try to quit smoking for free (with a sample of Nicorette gum) or smell good, specifically like Bodycology’s Raspberries & Cream Body Lotion, for free. For a store as diverse as Wal-Mart, it’s a clever idea to keep checking its sample site.
Beauty.com’s Sample Center
This is a great find if you’re looking to give a few new perfumes or lotions a try, but all kinds of beauty products are featured here.
FreakyFreddies.com
Just about every day, this site is updated with a hefty hodgepodge of freebies, samples, and even sweepstakes. Very well regarded among the Internet’s top bargain hunters, FreakyFreddies may not always offer up complimentary beauty products or apparel, but there’s probably at least one item per week that you’d buy anyways.
FreeStuffTimes.com
While there’s nothing particularly unique about this site, it’s one of the first and most trust-worthy of its kind, and it’s updated frequently.
What freebie sites can you add to this list?

The Deal: Win Free Clothing at Zappos.com!
The Lowdown: Zappos, the shoe peeps, are now selling clothing. In effort to get the word out about their new clothing section, Zappos.com is hosting a contest to win free clothes and you know there’s nothing we like more than free stuff.
While Zappos isn’t the most budget friendly place to shop on the web (for true shoe deals head to endless.com), we did find some cute items that may be worth a try—especially since Zappos offers free returns.
These bold green RSVP Farah sandals are the perfect ending to your Spring ensemble with their halter-style heel strap and 4 3/4” wedge heel ($75). If you’re looking for a non-black cocktail dress, get this graceful Calvin Klein dress with its gathered waist and optional straps; the cut offers a great fit for almost all body types ($178). Go floral this season with this eye-catching kensie Geo Flower Dress with puff sleeves and ruffles; the scoop neck and above the knee length are right in line with Spring trends ($76).

What: If you’re a recently jobless (or god forbid, homeless) recessionista, you may be eligible for a free, silver necklace (valued at $99). Simply bring your foreclosure or job termination notice to one of these 45 participating independent jewelers, and you’ll be handed a silver sterling necklace. While supplies last, of course—each jeweler is giving away one hundred pieces.
What They Say:
“We have come together as a group to give back to our communities,” the jewelers said in a media release. “So many people have lost their jobs or homes, and can’t afford to give a gift for Valentine’s Day. There are women whose spirits would be lifted by wearing a new, special necklace, but could never buy it for themselves at this time. We want to help. So we are giving away these necklaces.”
What We Say: Unlike the recent makeup giveaway, this one comes from the heart… and consequently, melts ours. We hope you haven’t recently lost your job or your home, but if you have, you deserve a little something for Valentines Day—so find out if you live near one of these generous jewelers and treat yourself.
“THIS EVENT HAS ENDED”
Did you buy cosmetics between May 29,1994 and July 16,2003? We’re guessing you did. And stores like Macy’s and Dillard’s will take your word for it. Due to a class action settlement, which amounted to a whopping $175 million, a long list of department stores are handing out free makeup; no strings attached. According to the law, you’re owed one free item of makeup. But you’ve only got until Monday, January 26th (or while supplies last) to take advantage. Here’s a list of all the participating stores and cosmetic brands.
What: Anthropologie recently launched free in store “reinvention” (aka craft) workshops in select stores nationwide, with the goal of helping customers get the most out of their clothing.
From Anthropologie: “We wanted to share something really personal, which is our creative side, on a one-on-one level,” said Anthropologie’s chief merchandising officer, Wendy Wurtzburger. From an earlier press release: Just in time for the holidays, Anthropologie will debut a special series of craft workshops that will tug at customers’ heartstrings, as well as those of their family and friends. Given the current state of the economy, customers will be thrilled to discover how extraordinary and meaningful a hand-crafted, remade gift can be. They will find that their work possesses more of their true self and sentiment and helps to convey crucial messages regarding the needs for reinvention and reuse from economic to environmental.
Check out your local Anthropologie stores for workshops
