A clothing swap party sounds like a great idea on paper, but is it easier said than done? It could be a fun way to get rid of closet clutter and freshen up your wardrobe, or it could be a total disaster.

What if all your friends are different sizes? A gathering like this could just bring attention to this fact. A clothing swap also makes us think of that White Elephant gone wrong - remember when you gave up an expensive bottle of wine for a tacky snow globe? So unfair. However, in this recession, a clothing swap party can be an innovative and creative way to shop, assuming you’ve got the right group of stylistas in attendance.

So, what’s the verdict? Have you ever thrown or attended a clothing swap party? And if you haven’t, would you consider going to one if you were invited?

What: Buy 1 Get 1 Free— probably one of our favorite things to hear a salesperson utter. Right now, buy one pair of sunglasses at New York and Co. and get a second pair for free. Sale ends July 12.

What We Say: Sunglasses are necessary to protect our eyes from harmful UV rays, but they’re also one of those accessories that we keep needing to buy more of—we lose them, we scratch them, and they fall into the unreachable areas of our cars. The Deal: It’s simple: Purchase two specially marked Herbal Essences shampoos or conditioners or one of their hair coloring kits, enter the UPC codes online here, print out the redemption form, send ‘em in along with the receipts from purchase, and in 4-6 weeks you will get a voucher for a free manicure or pedicure at a participating beauty salon. 

The Lowdown: The wait seems long, but do it now and you’ll get your pedicure in time to go to the beach and not be afraid to wear flip flops. I wish the deal was for a free manicure AND pedicure—it’s going to be a difficult decision for me.
