Banana Republic Fall 2011 Review

Banana Republic Fall 2011

What: TBF attended Banana Republic’s Fall 2011 Fashion Show and brings you the lowdown

What they Say: As in the season itself, the color gradient evolves naturally, shifting easily from vineyard tones of claret and plum to mustard, tomato and honeyed butterscotch…Effortlessly layered textures come into view as a strong focal point…cable-knits, faux fur scarves, leopard-print pieces and the like…Subtle notes of equestrian elegance—another classic autumn paradigm—exist through, from the ladylike riding gloves to the faintly jodhpur-like slim pant.

Banana Republic Fall 2011 Review

What We Say: The fashion show, the venue, the clothes, all looked very impressive. However, when we shop at Banana Republic, we certainly don’t look like a model down a runway. So let’s talk about how the apparel translates to the real world.

The colors were traditionally fall and very pretty–camels, mustards (we love mustard hues), oranges, etc. They threw in some leopard print, the oh-so-hot-right-now pattern—which added some pop to the ensembles. Expect to see lots of tweed, textures, and the pseudo-preppy apparel that is simple an sophisticated for the office or the street.

Interior Motives: Wearing Your House on Your Sleeves

What: Fashion is having interior motives as mad-for-décor fashion designers are finding inspiration in the most unlikely places – from wallpaper, furniture, and even entire rooms.

What WSJ says: Among other things, this spring could be known as the season when the term “fashion insider” takes on a new meaning. That’s insider as in interior, as in interior decoration. As in a print of a Baroque molding blooming out of the bodice of a striped Prada dress, or Rodarte’s collection of grainy faux-bois tops and skirts inspired in part by Stephen Shore’s photographs of 1970s suburban interiors.

Ann Taylor Fall 2011 Preview

Ann Taylor Fall 2011

What: TBF attended the Ann Taylor Fall 2011 Fashion Preview

The Scoop: We really loved what’s in stores for fall at Ann Taylor.

As was seen on the Fall 2011 runways, bright colors like oranges and deep reds are really hot and they’re coming at you in all different forms. Red pumps, orange blouses, deep blues and greens as well as other jewel tones are prevalent. We love this as we’re huge fans of being bold, but Ann Taylor has also designed some great neutrals. Lots of beiges and browns (which we actually liked–sometimes brown can be very drab) and blacks. Note: blacks and browns can be combined, ladies. That’s not a fashion faux-pas.

Like we’ve said before, fashion is all about being inspired by what we see around us, and if what we happen to see is a model walking down the runway, then so be it! And while your big sister may have
