Daily Poll

Accessories, Freebies, and Potential First Ladies

October 5, 2008 06:59 AM | Comments (0) | Posted in daily poll, michelle obama, cindy mccain

Our new look isn’t the only hot topic on TBF! This week our readers shared a host of opinions in our scintillating daily polls. In case you missed it, here’s a recap of the past few days:

~ No matter what you think of their policitician husbands, there’s no denying that both Mrs. Obama and Mrs. McCain have some serious style.  But, the majority (64%) of our readers prefer Michelle’s accessible chic to Cindy’s more put-together wardrobe (24%). The remainder of voters (10%) said they don’t care, they’re so sick of the election!

~ Coco Chanel famously said that every woman should take off one accessory before leaving the house, but in your opinion, when it comes to accessories, how much is too much? 41% of women said one or two at a time is an appropriate amount, while 43% said three to four. 12% said five or six and the remaining 2% said the sky is the limit.

~ Dermatologists can be an important part of not only your beauty regimen but of taking care of your overall health.  However, 56% of our readers have never been to a dermatologist for any reason.  40% regularly see a doc for a medical condition affecting their skin and 2% head to the dermo for cosmetic procedures like Botox and facial peels.

~ Who doesn’t love a freebie from the department store beauty counter?  61% of readers admit that they’re definitely a sucker for free gifts with purchase, but how can you blame them? 38% of women, however, skip the department store and put their savings to good use at a discounter.

~ There’s an old urban legend that lip balm is addictive and according to 50% of our readers it seems to be true!  10% didn’t have a problem with lip balm, but did confess to being hooked on hand cream, while another 8% were thirsty for face cream. 16% said they had another beauty addiction, while only 13% proclaimed that they were addiction free!

Morning Routines, Fake Fragrances, and Your True Color

Fall is back in full force and so were your opinions in this week’s daily polls.  In case you missed the action, here’s a recap of what happened here at TBF:

~ There’s an old saying, “the early bird catches the worm”, but not everyone is happy to wake up with the sun. When we asked readers about their morning routines, most (43%) said they wake up about an hour before they have to leave, take a shower, get dressed and go, while 26% shower the night before.  11% wake up a few hours early to shower, do their hair, press, their clothes, and do their make up and a motivated 5% even add in a work-out.  The remainder, an easy-going 12% just roll out of bed and go.

~ We all know the stereotypes about blondes, brunettes, and redheads, but are they true? 50% of readers said their hair color, whether natural or not, reflects their personality, while 7% of non-blondes say that’s their true color.  A surprising 20% feel that they’re really brunettes at heart, 8% are redheads, and 12% feel like they’re really more like a rainbow of colors.

~ The satchel bag is a hot look for fall, but is the classic look worth paying a hefty price tag? 35% of readers said “no”, but they will be looking for less expensive versions in thrift shops and discounters like Target.  20% would spend up to $100, while only 6% would pay more than that.  Another 20% said they’ll pass on this trend and 13% will recycle similar bags from previous seasons.

~ You’ve all seen the ad that says “Fakes are never in fashion”, but it usually refers to knock-off bags and accessories.  Brands like Designer Imposters make designer fragrance fakes available to the masses, but most of our readers aren’t buying it.  45% would never wear a fake fragrance, while only 17% definitely would.  The remaining 32% said they might, but only if it were a dead ringer for the original.

~ If you thought botox was crazy, you’ll do a double take when you hear about skin needling, the latest trend among ladies seeking the elusive fountain of youth.  Although it’s growing in popularity, a whopping 85% of TBF readers said they would never undergo the painful procedure, while only 14% gave it the thumbs up.

Bold Lashes, Bad Habits, and Favorite Gadgets

September 21, 2008 12:59 PM | Comments (0) | Posted in daily poll, wrap_up

Fall has officially begun and we can’t wait to bust out our new looks for the season.  While we look forward to the hottest trends, here’s what you had to say about the hottest topics of the week in our Daily Polls.:

~ Mascara, false lashes, and eyelash curlers can really make your eyes pop. When we asked TBF readers how they add volume to their lashes, 41% said they use a good mascara, while an additional 41% use an eyelash curler.  9% use a great celebrity make-up trick and apply false eyelashes for extra drama.  But another 6% use nothing at all- their eyes look great au natural.

~ Retailer specific credit cards are notorious for their high interest rates, but it can be tempting to sign up when salespeople offer you instant savings on a purchase.  Most of our savvy readers (43%) know to avoid this type of credit card, but a responsible 39% always pay the total balance each month on the one or two they have.  10% have more than two but also always stay on top of their balances.  Only 5% of card holders have trouble paying off their balance of the one or two cards.

~ When we regular gals are constantly exposed to unattainable standards of beauty on TV, in magazines, and movies, it can be hard to feel great about your own natural beauty.  That’s why a number of our readers struggle, at least from time to time, with their self confidence.  8% said they just don’t like what they see in the mirror, while 32% admit they only feel pretty about half of the time.  43% usually feel good about their looks, but still confess to feeling down about themselves every once in a while. Only 15% said they feel great: even if they’re not perfect, they still know how to work it.  So come on ladies, take a tip from that 15% and love what you’ve got! After all, nothing is more beautiful than a confident woman.

~ A decade ago, the word accessories definitely meant jewelry, bags, and sunglasses.  But today, the term has come to include the fashionable gadgets that have become a part of our everyday lives.  Not surprisingly, the iPod was voted the number one “must-have” gadget among TBF readers, trailed by the Blackberry at 18%.  iPhones were a little less popular at 13% and laptops earned 12% of the vote.  Interestingly enough, 20% of our fashion forward readers confess that when it comes to technology, they’re a little behind the curve!

~ Whether you bite your nails, play with your hair, or over pluck your brows, most of us have at least one bad beauty habitPimple popping topped our list with a whopping 47%, followed by nail biting at 11%.  5% of readers play with their hair and 4% go a little overboard with the tweezers.  15% said they suffer from multiple afflictions and only 6% were habit free.

Got something to say?  Tell us what you think everyday by voting in TBF’s Daily Polls.  Then catch up on all the action this time next week.
