Crocs: Recycle This

June 18, 2008 by EcoistPaige on June 18, 2008

You already know you can recycle newspapers, cans, and bottles. But did you know you can also recycle those soft, colorful shoes called Crocs? And what’s more, they’re going to a good cause.

A few years ago, a little plastic shoe became a fashion phenomenon. But what happens when your Crocs go kaput?

The Crocs company wants to save all that plastic from landfills and make the developing world a more comfortable place. So it started a project called SolesUnited, the first-of-its-kind recycled footwear donation program which allows people to give back their worn-out crocs shoes to be recycled into new shoes that will be donated to people in need around the world. It’s simple:

1) wear your shoes until they’re no longer comfortable,
2) donate your worn-out crocs to an official collection center,
3) collected shoes are ground into new recycled footwear,
4) shoes are donated to people in need, around the world.

The next stop for the recycled croc? 10,000 pairs of shoes will be distributed throughout Haiti to YéleHaiti, Grammy-winning artist Wyclef Jean’s foundation.

And the love of crocs spreads around the world…

Yea or Nay: Crocs

June 25, 2007 by The Budget Fashionista on June 25, 2007

I don’t like Crocs. I’m sure they’re comfy and my doctor friends swear by them, but there’s just something about the shoes that I just don’t like. Plastic clogs? Weren’t leather clogs bad enough?
