This past April, I was in Chicago giving a speech and doing an interview with the amazing Ellen Warren (of Chicago Tribune, read the article here.). Chicago in April isn’t the best weather in the world (it’s pretty darn rainy and cold), so it was a great place to try out my color theory.

The hottest trend of the spring/summer season is color-blocking, and personally, we couldn’t be more thrilled. The spring 2011 runways exploded with vibrant hues that were avante garde, playful, and impossible to ignore both for their brightness and their prominence across designers and retailers.
The color-block look is far from new, but it’s back with such a bang that you don’t want to ignore it this year. There are lots of ways to make it work for you– some easier than others– so let’s take some time to examine the best ways to color-block your summer looks.

By the time spring hits, you’re in need of a major vacation from work, from cold weather and from the all-black ensembles you’ve been wearing (fabulously) all winter. You’re thinking of exotic destinations like Africa, Peru and India. Coincidentally, so are your favorite designers.
“En Exotic Journey” was the theme created by the color experts at Pantone, who put together the top ten hues for the season. It’s been a while since you saw these on the runways in September, so allow us to refresh your memory.
