How about these kinda funky satin lace-up heels on sale for $304? Practical? Non. But Yoox.com (or designer for that matter) isn’t really about practicality, is it? At least it’s all on sale.

The Lowdown: Discounted designer apparel on clearance (or, as Bluefly likes to call it, “reduced sale”) always grabs our attention, but we’re not going to buy designer just because it’s there. We actually have to need what we’re picking up (it’s a pesky side-effect of being budget-conscious), so we’re going to dig deeper to find actual value.
For us right now, value means something fabulous that we can use to move our winter wardrobe gradually into spring, so some feminine, bright hued tops that will work both under a jacket and later stand on their own as weather permits are a top priority. The Lowdown: While we wouldn’t bother to drop a lot of cash on a pair of, say, silver platform salsa sandals (for the record, we’d get ours via Patricia Field at Payless), we do see the logic in spending a little more on a footwear wardrobe staple like a great pair of boots. Since we pretty much wear them to death, quality boots are a must to get the most mileage from our investment.

While we love gray boots right now, we’re afraid they’ll look dated before long, so we’d recommend a standard but stand-out pair of black or brown. The Lowdown: The clearance pickings, at this point in the season, are pretty slim.
