What: A sneak peak at Charlotte Ronson’s I [Heart] Ronson line for JCPenney

What We Say: In this era of increasingly budget-conscious shopping and fashion, we’re delighted to see a fresh and modern designer like Ronson team up with one of our sturdy standbys, JC Penney, to bring us even more choices in designer/budget fashion (prices range from $15-$65). From the first looks on Nylon and NYMag, we feeling the springtime vibe with the pretty purples and grays, and easy versatile shapes. The contemporary sportswear line is set to hit 600 Penney’s stores in the Spring of 09, and will also be available online and through catalogue. We can’t wait.

New York City Fashion Week Spring 09: DKNY

What: DKNY Runway Show, Tent at Bryant Park, New York City Fashion Week Spring 09

The Lowdown: For Spring, DKNY is giving us easy shapes and a typically urban vibe painted with bold pinks, lime greens, and clear blues against backdrops of taupe, navy blue and, yes, black—with a little denim thrown in for good measure. Strong structure up top and lots of leg found their way to the runway, accented with more thin horizontal stripes (like we saw with Charlotte Ronson) and necklines were highlighted with thin fringed scarves and long swingy chains. The details? Drawstrings (some on anorak style jackets) and big bows (used sparingly and on just the right scale), adding to the 80s-but-updated feel of the collection on the whole . . .

Budget Solutions: The focus on black will make it easy to transition into these trends from winter, meaning from a budget standpoint (assuming you have a black jacket or, say, a short black skirt) you’ll really just need to worry about adding the pops of neon color and stripes if you want to stay on the urban DKNY trend . . . and Forever21 will probably be the place to do that. Hit up Claire’s for some long chain necklaces now, as well and for the scarves? Keep Urban Outfitters in mind as the season draws near. . .

New York City Fashion Week Spring 09: Charlotte Ronson

September 6, 2008 03:15 PM | Comments (0) | Posted in new_york_city, fashion trend, new_york_fashion_week, designer, runway, coutorture.com, charlotte ronson

What: Charlotte Ronson Runway Show, Promenade, New York Fashion Week Spring 09

The Lowdown: It’s official. Black and gray are big for Spring—but color us pleasantly surprised, as the neutrals are done in a way that’s, somehow, spring-like. Take Charlotte Ronson’s collection on the runway, for example—black and gray take a front seat, followed by soft rosey pink, deep blue, and an occasional subtle and artistic floral print. Taking the focus off the big colors of last Spring means more attention to styling and detail, and Ronson is no exception—she’s pulled together pieces that are strong yet feminine, weighted heavily towards short skirts (from full to hip-hugging) and cinched waists, and prominently featuring horizontal stripes (a thinner version of last summer’s wide-stripe trend), and black lace. And we’re talking feminine that is far from frilly and fussy—it’s full of strong, clean lines that say less “demure” and more “diva”. We like.

Budget Solution: Looks like the emphasis next Spring will be less on jewelry and more on belts—this goes for Ronson as well as some other collections we’ve seen—so we’d suggest picking up some wide black ones right now (like this Carrie Waist Belt at Delia’s), and then some basic black body conscious pieces to layer with pink and lace come spring. The shoes are—again—chunky and platform, and the accessories are barely there (save for those omnipresent belts). Our one concern? We’re not sure we’re feeling those sheer knee high stockings, which make us think of great-granny and her orthopedics—so we’re skipping that one for the time being . . .
