We are honored to again have this opportunity to help those in need and hope to make this an ongoing initiative.”

What: Clean out your closet and head to Stein Mart, where you’ll get 20% off a single-item purchase, just for donating gently-used clothing to the Salvation Army. Stein Mart’s annual Give & Receive event is happening March 5—7.
What They Say:“The economic downturn has meant that people are keeping their gently used items longer so we are seeing fewer donations to our thrift and family stores,” said Major George Hood, The Salvation Army’s national community relations and development secretary. “This means that we have fewer goods to sell and therefore less funding for our life-changing programs. Stein Mart’s support, and that of their shoppers, is vital to our service.”
What We Say: . We know you can’t bare to part with those itty bitty jeans from college that you swore you’d squeeze into again, but chances are there’s someone else out there who can fit into those jeans. So, help out the Salvation Army, and receive a coupon for 20% off a single purchase at Stein Mart.
What: The Dark Knight’s femme fatale Maggie Gyllenhaal and Trickle Up have teamed up for one of our fave combinations—fashion and a great cause. In this case, Gyllenhaal tapped New York jewelry design studio TENTHOUSANDTHINGS to design a necklace with proceeds to benefit Trickle Up’s “Seed a Dream” campaign.
The Lowdown: The necklace features three charms—a seed to represent the $100 seed capital grant that will help a poor person launch a microenterprise; a globe to represent Trickle Up’s outreach to people around the world working to pull themselves out of poverty; and a person doing the celebratory “arms up” gesture that indicates empowerment. Here’s how it works: For a donation of $100 to Trickle Up, you can help a poor family start a microenterprise in Africa, Asia, or Latin America, and receive the charm necklace or send it to a loved one as a symbol of a donation made in her honor. Grants of $100 go directly into the hands of extremely poor people as ‘seed capital’ to start their own businesses. In addition to start-up money, Trickle Up will give program participants business training and savings support to help them build sustainable livelihoods.

Mezzo soprano and New York City Opera singer Heather Johnson will perform. Purchase a regular ticket and receive a gift bag for $250 or become a VIP for the night and receive one worth $600. Score a Nanette Lepore dress for $225 instead of $370 or a Luca Luca clutch for $150 instead of $550.
