What: Get ready to die over stylist Rachel Zoe’s new clothing and accessories line for QVC. Days ahead of the collection’s official debut at Fashion Week, Zoe has published a sneak peak online. The looks, full of faux fur, clutch purses, and mega-sized jewelry, will officially go on sale at QVC.com on September 12th.
What They Say:
“Priced from $32-$130, these pieces are an easy and affordable way to add some bling to your basics this fall.”
What We Say: Is there anyone who doesn’t have a QVC fashion line? Despite our hesitations about Rachel, this collection might be something to check out. She just needs to remember that it’s one thing to dress celebrities like your ultra thin (and we mean that not in a nice way) self and it’s another thing to dress the average American woman.
What: Temperley, the British design label known for its ready-to-wear fashions and limited edition collection for Target, is looking to expand. The upscale label is branching out from selling $1,700 minidresses and $1,000 coats by creating a lower-priced diffusion line. With prices starting at just $50, the new line is set to be released next spring.
What They Say:
“Temperley produced a collection for U.S store Target back in 2007 that was also stocked in a pop-up shop at Selfridges London. Then the accessible price points helped the limited edition pieces to sell-out within days.”
What We Say: Although the prices for this new collection won’t be quite as wallet friendly as Temperley’s collection for Target, the line is slated to be a permanent fixture for the label, which means we (hopefully) won’t need to wait in line just to snag a few pieces like we did at Target cause we really, REALLY, love Temperley…
What: Is there anything Beyonce can’t do? Just a month after she launched a junior’s collection, Beyonce and her mom Tina are announcing plans to expand their House of Deréon clothing line as well. The ladies say they are planning to debut the collection of silk jumpsuits, daytime dresses and knitwear at U.S. department stores in time for spring with wholesale prices ranging from $70 to $100.
What Tina Knowles Says:
“Beyoncé and I have had several occasions where we have meetings all day and don’t have time to run and change before dinner,” says Tina. “This is a perfect collection to wear from the office to dinner because each piece can easily be dressed up or down.”
What We Say: She hasn’t had the greatest luck selling her House of Deréon line in the past, so it’s not entirely clear why Beyonce would want to continue the madness by adding on to the collection. Nonetheless, we’re looking forward to seeing what more of the pieces actually look like, and judging for ourselves whether anyone would actually wear them to the office or dinner.
Next to Nene and Caroline, Kelly Killoren Bensimon, is our favorite kooky Real Housewife. Who could forget her disjointed argument in the bar with fellow NYC Housewife, Bethenny Frankel or the cameras following her as she takes her morning jog down the center of 5th Avenue? Classic…
Well, the model-author-mom is adding “jewelry designer” to the many things she does with a line of Navaho & Snake inspired pieces currently being sold at New York’s Intermix as well as on the store’s website, Intermixonline.com.
While the line isn’t budget friendly (unless you consider a $515 crystal cuff budget), the collection does offer some affordable options- like this Crystal Double Head Snake Ring, that looks like it is made of sapphires and emerald, but for a lunch skipping $88, is made of crystals.
Verdict: Maybe. Our advice? She might want to rethink the price points.
What: If you’ve read this blog for a while, you know that we love, love, love UNIQLO. Well, we recently reported that German designer Jil Sanders had started consulting for the retailer. That relationship bloomed, and now Sanders’ new UNIQLO line has a launch date (or month). This October, you’ll see the first of the line - prices start at a lovely $25. Later on, the rest of Sanders’ clothes will hit stores (there are 140 pieces total; 100 are for women).
What We Say: Yay! We can add another store to our shopping list for fall 09. This is as great an example of penny-saving Designer Fusion as you can get. Looking forward to the line?

What: It’s so very appropriate that Candies paired up with Britney Spears a little while back. Maybe they were hinting at their latest teen fashion line, which promotes abstinence, and is headed up by the Candie’s Foundation and Seventeen magazine. (Remember when Britney said she’d save herself for marriage?) Young mommy Bristol Palin is the spokesperson for the line. Hey, we’re all for preventing teen pregnancy…but we’re bewildered about how Candie’s is going about this ambitious task. Shirts include tag lines like “I’m sexy enough to keep you waiting.” Shouldn’t those encouraging abstinence discourage graphic (tee) innuendo?
What They Say:
The foundation is currently pushing their new t-shirt design, created in partnership with Seventeen, which reads: “I’m Sexy Enough To Keep You Waiting.” A number of other designs were considered, shown on the website in this charming graphic, with girls in flirty tees surrounding text that reads: “Be Sexy! It Doesn’t Mean You Have To Have Sex!”
What We Say: We’re just as puzzled as you are. If Bristol was all about this abstinence movement, wouldn’t she put her time and effort into something a little more effective? We’re thinking she’s just looking for the publicity here. What are your thoughts?
What: Fran Drescher—the former Nanny star who now runs her own nonprofit organization called Cancer Schmancer—has yet another project in the works. The actress, comedienne, and health activist is launching a line of organic skin-care products called FranBrand together with HSN. The nine-piece collection includes facial cleanser, toner gel, lotion, eye gel, night creams, and lip balm, all of which Drescher says are packaged in organic, paraben-free, and carcinogen-free materials to make them as safe—and non-cancer-causing!—as possible.
What Fran Says:
“Women are schmearing stuff on their décolleté, wondering why we’re all getting breast cancer. Once you wake up and smell the coffee, it’s hard to go back to sleep. So I’m sounding the alarm,” Drescher says. “I couldn’t possibly sell something that wasn’t good for me. I’m still in therapy because I put other people’s needs above myself.”
What We Say: Say what you will about Fran Drescher, but the woman does have very nice skin. Of course, neither HSN or Drescher has announced the prices for any pieces in the collection just yet, so we’ll have to wait until the brand launches on November 10th before making a full judgment.
What: Longtime environmental and animal activist Alicia Silverstone is getting in touch with her roots. The actress has partnered with the company EcoTools to create a line of makeup bags and brushes made out of environmentally-friendly materials like natural hemp, recycled PET, and non-toxic ink. The collection, slated to launch at stores like Target and Walgreens in December, will include train cases, overnight bags, cosmetic kits, and makeup brushes priced from $8.99 to $19.99.
What They Say:
“EcoTools by Alicia Silverstone is a collection of chic carryalls that have a floral design inspired by Silverstone’s favorite flowers: lavender, rose, chrysanthemum, cosmo and thyme.”
What We Say: We may be tired of celebrities “designing” fashion and beauty lines, but there seems to be no doubt that the trend isn’t going away anytime soon. At the very least, it’s good to see that Silverstone isn’t selling out in her product launch, since the brand EcoTools seems to align so closely with the eco-friendly ideals she’s spoken out about for so many years.
What: Anna Sui is the second designer to pair up with Target for the store’s “Designer Collaborations” (Alexander McQueen was the first). September 13, 250 Target stores will debut Anna’s collection, inspired by the CW’s “Gossip Girl,” for a limited time. Gotta check it out before October 17 or you’re out of luck.
What Anna Says: “When I was in Asia last year, all the young girls kept asking me about the different locations in New York City where the characters from ‘Gossip Girl’ live,” Sui told WWD. “I liked the idea of creating a collection reflective of each characters’ style, sensibility and unique approach to fashion. By combining the elements of art, city, spirit, punk and glamour, we created a collection that exudes New York City fashion.”
What We Say: Known for her hippie meets hipster fashions, it makes sense that Anna would use the combined mojo of “Gossip Girls” and Target for a new endeavor. We don’t normally find fashion lines that rely on pop culture references or celeb backing too appealing, but with an established designer behind this particular effort, we’re hopeful. And hey, we give props to socialite Blair Waldrof for her impeccable sense of style. Even though she’s fictional.
My girl Christine at 15 Minute Beauty sent me a link to images from the new M by Madonna collection at H&M. Now, this isn’t the fashion blind item I posted about two weeks ago (all I can say about that is that it involves a recent fashion icon (but not Paris/Lindsey/Nicole, etc.) and a truly budget- friendly family sportswear oriented superstore), but the collection does look like it will be quite wearable and accessible.
The collection will be available in stores this month.
P.S. Is it just me or does it seem like H&M is raising their prices?
