Richard Chai Love

What: Richard Chai, the indie designer best known for his androgynous style and his limited edition collection for Target in 2008, is branching out. In addition to his high fashion (i.e. super expensive) collection, Chai has announced plans to launch a lower-priced label called Richard Chai – Love for men and women. With wholesale prices ranging from $50 to $100, the new collection is set to preview at fashion week this month and officially go on sale in spring 2010.

What Richard Says:
“It’s inspired by my girl, who’s in love with the guy that I dress,” said Chai. “They’re not carbon copies of each other, but they go hand in hand.”

What We Say: For anyone who’s ever looked at her boyfriend’s t-shirt and wondered if she could wear it as a mini-dress, Richard Chai’s collection is for you. Although it won’t be priced quite as cheap as his Target collection in 2008, Chai’s new line still seems like a great deal.

What:

—Richard Chai is the 12th designer to create the next collection for Target’s GO International Program. His contemporary dresses, skirts, blouses and more will be available to Target customers (which, by now, should be all of us) starting August 3 and it will be around for most of August. Prices range from $12.99 to $79.99.

—Accessories designer Dean Harris will be the third to launch a limited edition jewelry line. Her pieces, most of which are nature-related, will be around from August 17 to December 26. The Dean Harris for Target collection ranges from $19.99 to $99.99.

—Revered designer Monica Botkier will offer up a line of purses, clutches, and wristlets starting on July 20. Called Botkier for Target, the accessories will be in stores until September 14, 2008. Price points range from $19.99 to $49.99.

What We Say: We thought we’d be spoiled by Anya Hindmarch and Sigerson Morrison designing for Target, but boy, the designer goods lavished upon us, the bargain shoppers, never end. We’ve stared at the images above for about five minutes, and we cannot tell that it all costs less than $100. We’re excited—Botkier for Target hits stores in only 10 days!

What do you guys think of the pieces above? Are you as pleasantly anxious as we are?
