What: Robin attempts to spruce up her nails with Revlon Cuticle Moisture Cream, $7.99.
The Lowdown: I wish I had more time for weekly manicures, but I don’t. (Truth is, I have two young kids and I’m lucky when I can snag a morning shower without a whining audience.) When it comes to my nails, they’ve always been pathetic looking—short, thin, surrounded by ugly cuticles and the occasional hangnail. Enter Revlon’s Cuticle Moisture Cream, which comes in a container small enough to keep in your purse. The packaging claims a unique Protanical complex that features a blend of essential oils, vitamins and advanced ingredients to help strengthen, condition and shield nails from daily stress. The cream, is light, fluffy and not greasy, with a refreshing lemon mandarin sage scent that smells like something out of a spa. After applying the cream to my nails a couple times a day for a week, I truly think my nails look so much better. I’m happy! Maybe my next career will be as a hand model . . .
Yea or Nay: Yea. It’s the quickest nail fix around.

The lipstick choices are seemingly endless—a stroll down the drugstore beauty aisle, with all it’s Infinitys and Superstays and Overtimes, it’s enough to make your head spin. Amidst the pile of “not worth our money” lipsticks we’ve purchased over the years, we’ve found that Revlon ColorStay Overtime Lipcolor is pretty decent. Good color, stays put, shiny topcoat—all for $9.99. But we’re not entirely satisfied. So help a girl out—what’s your pick for best lipstick on a budget?
What: Robin tries out Revlon’s 3D Extreme Mascara, $7.49, in Blackest Black
The Lowdown: Cliché as it may be, a few swipes of mascara can really bring out your eyes. Even though it requires a few extra minutes in the morning (unless you’re one of those Kamikaze types who applies it while driving), the way mascara makes your eyes pop is worth it. That is, when the mascara is good. Having been partial to a certain brand that I absolutely love (the name just happens to fail my memory at the moment), I wasn’t dying to try something new. The Revlon packing claims that it will make your lashes 25X fuller, 70% curvier and 80% visibly longer. Okay, I’ll give it a whirl. As soon as I opened the bottle, I noticed “The Bold Impact Brush” with its “Exclusive Design” didn’t look anything like its picture—the brush was small, with short, stumpy looking bristles. But the application was actually nice and clean, with no clumping. I did have to make quite a few swipes to get full coverage, but when I was finished, I didn’t have use an eyelash brush to separate my lashes. My biggest joy, though, was that I didn’t need to curl my lashes (something I always do). My lashes stayed curled for hours and looked super long. A friend even complimented me by saying, “You look good in mascara. You should wear it more often.” Um, thanks? I always wear mascara, at least I thought I did.
Yea or Nay? Yea. I’m no mathematician so I can’t say their percentages are 100% accurate, but I’ll bet money this mascara will make your lashes look better than they do right now. And since you don’t have to bother with messy anti-clumping lash combs or curlers, it’s a win-win product.

Today’s Beauty Newsletter give tips for shaping your own eyebrows
Step 1. First, invest in a good, solid pair of tweezers like the Tweezerman Slant Tweezer
Step 2. Next decide on which shape you’d like—classic (think Halle Berry), rectangular (Brooke Shields), or rounded (Julia Roberts) and use an eye pencil to draw that outline into your brows. Try Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil ($2.49 at Walgreens).
Step 3. Now you’re ready to pluck. Start by grabbing the stray hairs between your brows. Remember, the inner edge of your eyebrows should be in line with the inner corners of your eyes. If yours don’t match up you could be in unibrow territory, so keep plucking, girl! Continue pulling out the hairs that don’t fall within the lines of your drawing. It’s easy to get carried away, so yank out one hair (in the direction of growth) at a time. And don’t forget to step back from the mirror, every few moments, to get a better look at the overall shape you’re creating. When you’re done, simply wash away the pencil lines to reveal an expertly crafted set of arches.
**If you’ve over tweezed in the past, you may not have enough brows to create your dream shape. Don’t lose heart! Just use a pencil to create a perfect arch while you wait for your brows to grow in. | ||
