This Saturday, August 15th, Old Navy is selling their tanks for $2 bucks a piece. Get striped, solid, and pattern tanks for less than a cup of coffee (which is a sad commentary on the price of coffee). Unfortunately, ON is limiting the number of tanks to five per customer, so that lazy friend (we all have one) who is always “too busy” to head to sales, yet wants you to shop them for her, will have to just admire your collection.

Old Navy is having a big sale on flip-flops- with it’s entire selection for $1 on Saturday, May 23rd ONLY. Please resist the urge to wear them as sandals…

Topic: What are the BEST stores to find interview-appropriate looks for less?
Aside from a killer resume, a great outfit can be your key to success. But appearing polished, professional and put-together on a budget can be a tough task—many work looks can easily set you back an entire paycheck. You can go the ultra cheap option, heading to stores like Old Navy, which offers low cost (and sometimes low quality) suit collections. Or shop thrift stores like Salvation Army and Junior Leagues Thrift Shops, where you can find high quality suits at low prices—if you’re okay with wearing used clothing. Department stores are another option, especially if you can hit them during a sale.
So we want to hear from you dear reader—what are the BEST stores to find interview-appropriate looks for less? Let us know below.

What: Old Navy will debut a new ad campaign on TV this week - the stars of it are creepy female mannequins (or “SuperModelquins”) that range from a divorced mom to a single and ready to mingle gal. The struggling retailer is trying to refocus its branding and bring back its tongue in cheek advertising style (remember Magic the dog?) from the 90s, all the while shouting out the value of its clothing.
What They Say:
“It is a bit polarizing. Some of us loved it and some of us liked it. Some of us were confused,” he [Tom Wyatt, Old Navy’s president] said. “But if you look back at Old Navy at its best ... we were always a bit quirky and different.”
What We Say: When the going gets tough, you gotta go back to the beginning and ask yourself - how did you become so successful in the first place? It seems that’s what Old Navy is doing here and we think that if the retailer focuses entirely on its target consumer, the budget and fashion savvy woman, stop trying to be an unstylish Forever 21, they might just make it through this challenging retail environment. Hey, we’re all about the value that Old Navy offers and we’d hate to see the retailer go up in smoke because it’s lost its identity.

The Deal: The $15 plus size bra and panty sale at Old Navy
The Lowdown: Old Navy isn’t usually the first place we look for undergarments (or second for that matter), but it turns out they not only have a lingerie collection (comprised of both typically Old Navy-esque wholesome basics and some more feminine pieces) but they carry bras in sizes up to 46DDD.
We can’t stress enough the necessity of a seamless t-shirt bra in every woman’s undergarment wardrobe, and so for $15 this might be time for plus size girls to pick up this versatile full-coverage version, starting in size 40C . Panties are also on sale, with three pairs for $15; we all know how hard it can be to find plus size panties that are actually pretty, but Old Navy’s got your back—these plus stretch lace bikinis come in sizes up to 4X.
Shop: OldNavy.com
The Deal: Get 50% off clearance items at OldNavy.com with the code: HALFOFF
The Lowdown: The clearance pickings, at this point in the season, are pretty slim. However, we’re trying to be forward thinking, and while we may not, in the most strict sense, need more layering pieces for spring, at half off clearance (and let’s face it, Old Navy’s regular prices aren’t exactly out of reach) we could be convinced to add a little extra color to what we’ve already got.
Which is why we gravitate to something like these lace-trim jersey knit camis , just 6 bucks each, in the kind of sorbet colors that we see when we close our eyes and dream about April (we wouldn’t bother opening them again, but we’re trying our hardest to avoid doing a face plant in the slush on the sidewalk . . . ).
Shop: OldNavy.com
The Deal: Save up to 75% on select Old Navy Plus Size clothing, sizes 16-30 (online only)
The Lowdown: Let’s just say we weren’t very happy when Old Navy’s decided to make it’s plus size section available only online (link to the post). We’re still not very happy, but offering our readers up to 75% is a good start on the path to forgiveness.
Getting ready for New Year’s Eve? If you’re not, you probably should be—it’s only a couple weeks away—and Old Navy is one of the few sources for really cute party-appropriate plus size dresses (http://www.thebudgetfashionista.com/archive/plus-size-holiday-outfit-for-under-55-the-budget-fashionistas-economic-surv/) that’s not completely overpriced.
The twisted sash empire dress here is on sale now for just $13.99 (seriously!), and the embellished faux gem dresses
(in black, and “dove”) are also on sale for well, just $13.99.
And it’s not just party dresses; there’s a limited but nice selection of sweaters and work-appropriate tops and skirts, most of which fall under $20.

“THIS SALE HAS ENDED” and “THESE PRODUCTS ARE NO LONGER BEING SOLD”
The Lowdown: This is the last day for this deal, so you’ll have to hurry—and we have some suggestions to help you spend your 100 bucks wisely. First, we’re all about gift guides and Old Navy has one—filled with things they deem “colorful gifts”—with a little something for everyone, including these super cute striped Performance Fleece Scarves (perfect for that tween, teen, quirky girlfriend on your list) for just $5. Don’t limit yourself to Old Navy’s picks, however—perusing the accessories (because most of the fashionistas we know are crazy for a cute accessory), we found these Faceted Bauble Necklace
, also just $5 apiece. At this rate it’s going to take awhile to tally up 100 bucks worth of stuff (don’t forget you still get an extra 20% off those prices), so you might as well treat yourself too, to something fab like these Ribbon Trimmed Patent Mary Janes
, on sale for $19.50.
Shop: Old Navy
The Lowdown: It’s only the beginning of December, but already for many of us the mercury has dropped to record low levels (well, it feels that way anyway) and so sweaters are probably being added to everyone’s holiday wish list as we speak. Get some for the whole family right now at Old Navy at up to 40% off, this weekend only. On our list? This cashmere cardigan, regularly $59.50 and on sale now for $35.

Dear Budget Fashionista:
The makeover stylists on TV tell women to wear their jackets and tops no longer than the crotch line, to look slimmer. Is this true?
Answer: This is one of those rules that only make sense for certain types of body. For example if you are widest at your hips, it is better to wear a jacket that is either at your waist or approximately 2 or 3 inches below your bottom. Why is this better? Well, the eye will be drawn to the section of your body where the jacket ends. Another trick is make sure your slacks/pants and jackets are of the same color, aka monochromatic (which by the way doesn’t necessarily mean all black); that way the jacket doesn’t make a break in the line of the outfit.
Pictured: Old Navy Women’s Essential One-Button Blazer, on sale $35.
What: Cheap boots for fall (we’re talking under $35 per pair)
What We Say: Boots are a fall and winter classic, and while the bootie is certainly hot right now, a more traditional boot style will easily take you through this style season and many more to come. You can wear them for both work and play, and they’re also a little warmer than other footwear options, meaning that they’ve got the advantage of both form and function—which, as purveryors of value, we love. In the interest of economic survival, we believe that if your going to spend your money on fashion updates this season it’s especially important to pick and choose things that will give you the most for your money. Oh, and proper care will extend the life of your boots (and all shoes) as well . . .
Our Picks:
Women’s Faux Suede Knee Hi Boots, $34.99, Old Navy
Steve Madden Women’s Olean Boot, on sale $30, Famous Footwear
Midcalf Scrunch Boot, on sale $25, Newport News
Brianna Boot, $32.80, Forever21
The Deal: Fall savings event, featuring up to 50% off select styles, at Oldnavy.com.
The Lowdown: Old Navy’s pretty budget friendly at regular price, but during a seasonal sale? Even better. There are still some summer items to be had for next to nothing—which you can tuck away for warmer days—and some pieces, like this ruffle button front shirt for $15, that you can wear right now.
Shop: OldNavy.com.
“THIS SALE HAS ENDED”
What: Yep, you read that correctly. Tomorrow, Saturday, June 28, Old Navy flip flops are one dollar. The sale is ONE DAY ONLY so head to your local Old Navy with lots of singles.
What We Say: Word has gotten around quick about this sweet deal so we suggest you head to your local store early so you’re not left with a small selection of colors and sizes at the end of the day. Old Navy has, without a doubt, cornered the budget flip-flop market because of the huge variety of colors and sizes. They’re cute basics that are affordable enough to buy new every summer. We’re getting up early tomorrow and purchasing pairs in every color of the rainbow.
The Deal: All their summer apparel, from Women’s to Women’s Plus to children’s wear, is 20 bucks and under.
What We Say: Just when you thought Old Navy’s prices were more than affordable, they go and do this, making us unable to resist them. Their effort to have trendy and stylish pieces has really paid off, and the ability to put together a great outfit for less than 50 bucks makes Old Navy a good place to go right now to find your summer wardrobe. Their pieces aren’t complicated and embellished, but simple patterns like chevron and geometric shapes as well as solid colors help you match with the clothes you already own, whether it’s a Marc Jacobs top or jeans from Wal-Mart.
Check out our picks:
You can dress these twill shorts up or down. Pair with heels and a flowing, silky top for night, and a racerbank camisole and tennis shoes for the day. $19.50.
The argument over whether jelly sandals are meant for grown women to wear is still raging, but if you’re pro-jelly, check out these strappy sandals. $10.00.
Pictured: The knot in the back of this racerbank tank is a good detail that makes Old Navy’s pieces so thoughtful and cute. Pair with the twill shorts above. $16.50.
“THIS PRODUCT IS NO LONGER BEING SOLD”
What: Old Navy has red houndstooth patterned performance fleece blankets for just 5 bucks each.
Who to Give it To: Who doesn’t love a soft, cozy blanket? I mean, seriously. And for $5, it’s definite Secret Santa material.
Buy it: @ OldNavy.com
What: Old Navy’s latest $1,000 Shopping Spree Sweepstakes.
The Lowdown: Oh, those clever folks at Old Navy - a $1,000 Sweepstakes, with the entry page found only by clicking to their “exclusive online” women’s plus size page. Tricky as they are, we found it, and while we’re still not over the fact that they pulled the plus size clothes from stores and relegated them to online-only purgatory (read more about that here), this might help a little.
Enter: Old Navy, once a day through Nov. 1. And if you’re so inclined, take a look at plus size sale items up to 50% off here.
