The Lowdown: As budget shoppers, we love that the winter markdowns come early enough for us to pick up some fashionable items we’ll still get plenty of use out of (unless you’re in the Florida Keys, a long cold winter still stretches out mercilessly ahead of us ...).
We always wait for a sale at Nordstrom, because while their regular prices will set us back more than we’d like, on a sale we can pick up quality pieces for about the same amount we’d spend on a lesser item at, say, JC Penney’s, and dresses are where we’re seeing the greatest value, in everything from cocktail and evening styles to day dresses (and in the midst of the winter doldrums, we’re particularly crazy about the color of the Tahari Ponte Dress pictured here). The Lowdown: We don’t know about you, but the winter doldrums are already starting to set in here at TBF, and assuming it’s in our budget (we’re balancing our checkbooks as we speak) the perfect cure might just be a fab pair of shoes. Or a handbag. We’re not picky. But they must be on sale—and free shipping and free returns on all orders, now offered by Piperlime, doesn’t hurt either.

The Lowdown: Even though we’ve been on New York & Company overload, when we clicked over to the NY&C Collection page to view this sale, we were suddenly ready to shop. Again. Maybe we’re just suckers for a pretty website (New York and Company’s is one of the better looking ones out there), but then again, we’ve never been unhappy with the quality. So we guess it’s a win/win.
This sale features the retailer’s special “collection”, and while we’re not sure it differs greatly from whatever else they’re selling, we are sure that the styling is pretty feminine and chic. We had a little trouble narrowing it down, but here’s what we’d pick:

The Lowdown: Kathryn gets a ton questions each week in regards to the quest for stylish wide-calf boots , which tend to be harder to find, and frequently costlier, than “regular” calf sized boots. So when we saw this boot sale at Avenue.com, we knew we had to spread the word—the selection is somewhat limited, however there is a respectable collection of tall and ankle boots in wide-calf and wide-width sizes. Our picks? We love patent, so we’re partial to this Jamie Patent Wide Calf Boot, on sale now for $39.99, but we also love something in gray (and with a cute little heel), like this Bettie Wide Calf Boot, $49.99.
