What: Stein Mart is doing it again. The specialty store chain is partnering with the Salvation Army for a Give & Receive clothing drive for the second time this year. From October 1 – 3, customers who bring in clean, gently used garments to any Stein Mart store nationwide will be able to receiving sales on a number of fall fashions, and more.
What They Say:
“We are proud to once again partner with Salvation Army,” says Stein Mart chairman Jay Stein. “Our loyal customers continuously step up to join us in our efforts to support this valued organization. We are honored to again have this opportunity to help those in need and hope to make this an ongoing initiative.”
What We Say: Organizations like the Salvation Army always need additional clothes for the cold winter months, and you need to clean out your closet. It sounds like a match made in heaven, right? Just consider Stein Mart’s offer to throw in a 20% off coupon for each item donated the cherry on top of this already great event.
What: From August 16th to the 22nd, anyone who works for a school can save 20% on any one item at Stein Mart (apparently, it has its own annual Teacher Appreciation Week). What’s cool is you don’t need to do anything to partake. Just bring your employee ID to the store.
What They Say:
“Teachers are an integral part of any community and what better way to give back to their contributions than by honoring them with this annual savings event,” said Stein Mart chairman Jay Stein.
What We Say: While this certainly isn’t a life-changing special offer, we think it’s a clever and generous way for Stein Mart to showcase its fall collection - which also is debuting this month. However, we sort of wish that teachers (and other school employees) could distribute the 20% in savings however they wish. They’ll only be able to cash in on this deal for one item, which is a tad bit annoying. But hey - better than nothing! And we certainly agree that teachers could use some back-to-school savings.
What: Clean out your closet and head to Stein Mart, where you’ll get 20% off a single-item purchase, just for donating gently-used clothing to the Salvation Army. Stein Mart’s annual Give & Receive event is happening March 5—7.
What They Say:“The economic downturn has meant that people are keeping their gently used items longer so we are seeing fewer donations to our thrift and family stores,” said Major George Hood, The Salvation Army’s national community relations and development secretary. “This means that we have fewer goods to sell and therefore less funding for our life-changing programs. Stein Mart’s support, and that of their shoppers, is vital to our service.”
What We Say: . We know you can’t bare to part with those itty bitty jeans from college that you swore you’d squeeze into again, but chances are there’s someone else out there who can fit into those jeans. So, help out the Salvation Army, and receive a coupon for 20% off a single purchase at Stein Mart.
Okay, we’re a bit scared cause we keep receiving these Duane Reade Friends & Family Coupons and we’re thinking that perhaps things are so bad that a drugstore has to offer a coupon for necessities like toothpaste, Nyquil, and toilet paper (which is crazy expensive, really $4.00 for a pack of four?). Regardless, we’re happy for the extra discount. (click onthe image or save it to your desktop to print)
The Deal: Buy 1 Get 1 at 50% Off New Spring Jewelry at New York & Company
The Lowdown: Spring, eh? Hmmm, well while we’re still just barely recovered from the whole holiday shopping insanity, not to mention still figuring out how to fend off the arctic chill, we’re hardly in a mind for spring. But then again, maybe that’s just what we need—something to look forward to, and jewelry? Well, we’re never against a fab accessory or two, particularly in a BOGO sale from one of our go-to retailers.
So what constitutes this “Spring” jewelry at New York & Company? Chunky beads, pale hues, and lots of silver—like this City Style Tiger Eye Bubble Necklace, $16.95, and this City Style Abstract Butterfly Necklace, $22.95. Still not sure you’re quite ready for a giant butterfly dangling from your neck? Maybe a new watch is more what you need, at 20% off right now as well (the selection’s not huge, but we kinda love this pretty City Style Heart Watch Charm Bracelet, on sale for $18.36).

“THIS DEAL HAS ENDED”
The Deal: Winter Clearance Sale, plus 20% off with printable coupon at Filene’s Basement
The Lowdown: Clearance, printable coupon, Filene’s Basement—we feel a cashmere sweater or two in our very near future. Because, if you’re a fan of Filene’s, you know that’s one of the things they do best. There’s also the designer jeans, handbags, and designer suits . . . well, you get the idea.
Of course, all that is assuming you don’t mind doing the required digging to find the deals. A tip: don’t go in with a very specific item in mind—instead think in general categories—and block out enough time to excavate, er, browse. And you will have to shop Filene’s hands-on, as there’s no online shopping (yeah, Angela is still spending all her free time campaigning for a Filene’s in St. Louis). To see if there’s a store near you, visit Filene’s website here.

I love a good coupon as much as the next budget shopper, but you know things are getting bad when your drugstore (in this case Duane Reade) has to put together a Friends and Family Coupon. This weekend, get 20% off your purchases (restrictions do apply on items like prescriptions, postage stamps, and other stuff).
