Dear Budget Fashionista,
I love wearing costume jewelry but usually after one or two wears it turns my skin green and/or the piece tarnishes. Is there anything I can do to keep this from happening? Can I coat the metal with something? Any advice you can share would be wonderful!

Answer: Sweat, lotions, perfumes, and all the other products we put on our skin can cause non-precious metals like pewter and copper to tarnish. Try painting a coat of clear nail polish on your costume jewelry to help preserve its color (and the color of your skin).
