The Lowdown: Broke? Like, really broke, but still want to look presentable at your friend’s office party (cause it’s all about the free food)? Then head to your local thrift store to score a holiday dress.

Who’s it for: Those with patience, sewers and other crafty folks, vintage fashionistas, up and coming fashion designers, and people who don’t mind wearing used clothing. As a rule of thumb do not spend more than $20 on a thrift store dress, throughly examine the dress for any stains or spots, do a smell test (if it smells funky, leave it on the rack) and have it dry cleaned before wearing.

Buy it: Your local Goodwill, Salvation Army, Junior League. Also online at ShopGoodwill.
