Is it just me, or am I the only one who feels like they suck at picking nail colors? I mean, my nails don’t look bad, I just often look down at my fingers and toes and think that I should have gone a shade brighter. Or darker. Or maybe I have olive skin with pink undertones and should never… View Post
What’s more terrifying than trying on swimsuits surrounded by mirrors in fluorescent lights? Paying a small fortune for a piece of body-baring Spandex. Want to carry around a sculpture on your arm? Cutout cuff bracelets can let you do that. Cuffs have been trending for a while, with cutout cuffs giving the bracelets an edgy look.
It’s probably safe to put away that winter coat right about now, but that doesn’t mean coat season is over. Iffy spring weather means keeping our options open—and the trench coat is a classic way to navigate the unpredictable rain, wind and (ohhhh, we hope not) snow that comes with the transition time.
Dear Budget Fashionista, I need help! I live in south Florida and I will be attending a wedding in October In NYC. I have no clue about fashion, can you please give me some ideas as to what I should wear? Answer: When in doubt, wear black… it’s what us New Yorkers do when we’re unsure about what to wear…. Almost as important as the swimsuit (and generally eminently more wearable) is the cover-up. We love them because they make the long walk from the beach chair to the bathhouse soooooooo much less cringe-inducing.
If your undergarments are stretched, stained, damaged or otherwise abused, throw them in the garbage . . . Now. There is nothing more valuable to your appearance than wearing proper undergarments. Undergarments have the power to completely alter an outfit. I mean, what’s the sense of wearing a fabulous Nicole Miller dress you got for $35 from Bluefly if your backside… View Post
How many times have you looked into your closet and thought, “I have nothing to wear?” If you hear yourself uttering this statement, it’s a sign you have a dysfunctional closet. In other words, your wardrobe is probably missing several key essentials that allow you to transition easily from one outfit to the next. It’s time to stop the insanity and get… View Post
There is absolutely no reason why plus size sistas can’t be fabulous at the beach. It’s taken decades for swimwear designers to catch on to the fact that, hey, full-figured women like to swim, sunbathe, and worship the sun just like their thinner counterparts. Whether you’re pear shaped, apple shaped, big bosomed, sporting a lot of junk in the trunk,… View Post
Oh, what to wear. And—oh, what *not* to wear! With fashion, it’s always a thin line between love and hate. As luck would have it, dos and don’ts of style are aplenty this summer, so if you have any questions—hopefully, you’ll find the answer here. It’s the weekend, it’s summer, and I hope you have your sights set high. As a fan of the “weekend warrior” mentality, as often as I can afford I get out of dodge on Friday night and don’t return until Sunday. Sure, it’s exhausting, but the fun, adventure, exploration and excitement make it all worth it.
I couldn’t take it anymore. With so many ladies getting in on the rainbow hair trend, stepping out in pink, purple or blue hair (or all at the same time), I had to try it myself. Admittedly, I’m more of a conservative fashionista who goes for the element of bold surprise: fluorescent nails to go along with my simple black and… View Post
Shopping last weekend was eye-opening. I know summer is fast approaching (or here already) so it was no surprise that the hot-weather attire was out in full force. As expected, there were shorts. Tanks. skirts, Maxi-dresses.
On the weekend, I like to rough it. Sure, I love to shop and brunch and lounge at the beach—but nothing is more fun and satisfying than getting sweaty and dusty on a long hike in the Los Angeles mountains.
Uhm, is it just me or is everyone wearing shoes, hats, sunglasses, tanks, shorts and dresses patterned with birds, florals and tropics? Yep. And it looks great—much better on a person than off the rack. Just trust me.
Picking sunglasses for summer is my favorite hot-weather activity. No matter if the sun is out and scalding or it’s June gloom, or whether I am bikini-ready and tan or a tad out of shape, shopping for sunglasses is just like shopping for shoes: always satisfying, always fun, and since there are as many brands and styles of eyewear as… View Post
There’s something soothing about the sound of a wind chime. What can drive us crazy, though, are 1) people who decorate their entire yard with so many chimes that we need earplugs in the slightest breeze and 2) chimes that are too cutesy. After all, we want subtle sounds that create a feeling of zen, without looking like we’re hanging a newborn’s Mickey… View Post
