The Look: In Paris, basic black punctuated with color—black tights, skirt, jacket, with a purple Keffiyeh scarf and purple flats.
For the Style File: Confession—I’ve never been to Paris. Having said that, this outfit is exactly the image I conjure up when I picture the City of Lights—sleek black, quirky accessories on a girl who looks gorgeous just standing there. There’s a simple lesson here—basic black is always a do, especially, as some of our readers have pointed out, when you live in the city and, with riding the train, bus, etc., things tend to get grungy fast. Basic black, however, doesn’t have to be boring—we love the tights, and the burst of color right up by the face, bringing all the attention where it belongs—on you.

What to Wear With Purple! Fashion Tips from Artfulwears.com!
Many of you buy pieces of clothing in great colors and have no idea what to wear with them. I am always amazed by this because it comes naturally to me. However, when one of my very fashionable customers asked me today “What should I wear with my purple skirt, I haven’t worn it yet?�, I thought I need to take a moment and talk about color matching.
This particular purple skirt did a have a coordinating (but not matching) tee shirt available but that is really not the point. Purple happens to look great with charcoal (the hottest color of the season), chocolate, or black. You could obviously wear it with white but at this time of year I would stick to darker neutrals. Pretty much any neutral works with Purple. You could even go to Olive or Khaki.

Pretty depressing that such a “body positive” site always posts extra-thin street fashion women. I thought you even complained about this once, but I’ve yet to see a picture of a “real” woman (not a model) who is bigger than a size 6.

That’s a good observation Lisa—our “street fashion” women come from StreetPeeper.com and, come to think of it, we’re not really seeing a lot of variation in size there. Hmmm.
The focus of these features, of course, is on the style—and hopefully our notes and tips are useful to women of all sizes.

I don’t know what everyone is talking about. That poor girl looks *heinous*. Just as women with broad shoulders avoid boat neck tops, so one would hope that super-skinny girls avoid skin-tight leggings to avoid appearing emaciated instead of naturally thin. To avoid looking overly adolescent (or just plain cheap), she either needs a longer skirt or a pair of pants.

In our effort to be “body positive”, we must make sure we don’t become the victimizer.
TBF is a body positive site, but that is body positive for ALL women- petite, thin, plus size, teens, older, etc.
I think you’re both being EXTREMELY unfair. TBF is pretty much the only fashion site out there that really tries to show that style isn’t limited to size (and color and location).
In terms of street fashion, we’ve featured women who weren’t thin… who were sizes 8 and 10s.

Also remember that a size 6 isn’t what you think. America Ferrarra (Ugly Betty) wears a size 6. So did many of the women in the Dove commercials.

I think this girl looks just fine. It seems sometimes people take fashion images literally. That could make anyone miserable if they are not 5’ 11’ and a size 2. Instead, I try to take what I see and apply what works for me. I’m in my 40s and I find inspiration in lots of places. That doesn’t mean I want to dress like my 17-year-old daughter. But I’ll slap on a fun neckalce or earrings from Hot Topic, Forever 21 (that’s a great name for a store!) or the like every now and then.
