Fashion Trend: The Charm Necklace

After the early Spring glut of (admittedly fabulous) tribal inspired jewelry, which consisted of lots of bold and chunky wood and patterns, the second-wave jewelry trend of delicate and feminine charm necklaces is a refreshing change. Depending on the piece, it’s a look that can be at home in the office, at a club, or running errands on the weekend -- and versatility is a budget fashionista’s very best friend (well, besides Marshall’s). Some suggestions:

~ Keep it clean and simple. The charm necklace looks best when it's not competing with a bajillion other things, so think clean simple lines, colors, and patterns -- forget pairing it, for example, with a top that boasts a big floral pattern -- the necklace will get lost.

~ Consider the neckline. There's nothing that will ruin the look faster than having your delicate charms competing with a collar or neckline that just gets in the way. Make sure the length and neckline work together so that the charms are either against your skin (shorter necklace with a v-neck, scoop, or open-collared button-down shirt) or unobstructed against your top (a longer necklace that doesn't bump into the neckline's edge).

~ Get edgy. Here’s a trend you can have some fun with, so don't be afraid to go out on a limb. For the fashion forward, we suggest taking a look at the Subversive line of necklaces for Target, which include pieces like this Killer Bee and Roses Necklace, $39.99 . Other sources for pretty charm necklaces for less: Claire's, Forever21, Wet Seal.
