Holiday Trend Alert: Knits

What: Holiday shoppers are big on knits of all kinds this season

What the fashion heads say: This, from Women’s Wear Daily: “From dresses to leggings and, of course, sweaters, knits are big sellers this holiday. In a survey of better-priced vertical retailers, knit items â€â€? particularly in cashmere â€â€? consistently ranked as shopper favorites, both as gifts and self-indulgences.”

What we say: As you might have guessed from all of our cashmere-happy posts this season, we love a good knit as much (or maybe more) as the next girl. Women’s Wear Daily focuses mainly on the higher end labels for knit-wear, like Kenneth Cole, Tommy Hilfiger, and Club Monaco, but any good budget shopper knows that a decent knit can be had for less. Our favorite knit-picks, from some of the old standbys:

~Target Go for their heavier-knit items, like this toggle knit carcoat, which won’t pill the way some finer gauges will.

~Old Navy Try their cashmere—no, it’s not as good as high-end but it’s pretty darn good for the price.

~Gap We like this classic cable knit sweater because, well, it’s classic, and it comes in tall and petite sizes.

~Macy’s If you have someone young and hip on your list (or if you happen to be young and hip), Macy’s has some sweater dresses that are worth a look, like this Love Lola three-quarter sleeve dress, on sale now for just $24.

I think forever21 has like a really good collection of sweaters that are really affordable ... around $9.80.

Also, H & M has a good selection for around $14.00
