Club Monaco Tests Home Collection

March 21, 2005 03:44 PM | Comments (1) | Posted in Coupon+DealsAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

Apparently the folks at Club Monaco are trying to get into the home fashions business.  According to Trend Central, the store is testing a home collection in six of it’s New York City Stores. The line includes pillows, textiles, and electronics. Club Monaco reminds me of clothing that a hip German school teacher would wear—efficient with a hit of of sex appeal. I’m very curious to see how they translate this into housewares.

Fashion Advice: What is The Perfect Ten

March 17, 2005 12:03 PM | Comments (7) | Posted in AustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

Recently, a reader sent me an email asking me to define the term “perfect ten”. Yes, a perfect ten can refer to someone who has superior physical beauty (remember that old Dudley Moore movie “10”), but it also refers to a body that has a 10-1-10 ratio between the bust, waist, and hips. In this ratio, the bust and hips are approximately the same size and both are ten inches larger than the waist. This supposed to be the “ideal” body ratio and indicates a proportionate body. The cool thing about it that the ratio is not determined by clothing size. So, whether you’re a 44-34-44 or ...

Great Conditioner for Dry Hair

March 16, 2005 12:00 PM | Comments (0) | Posted in Product ReviewsAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

Okay there is no need to spend a trillion dollars on hair conditioner. Head to your kitchen for the perfect hair conditioner for dry hair. Here’s the how-to:

Combine 1/4 mayonnaise (the real stuff not Miracle Whip), with three tablespoons of olive oil and 1 egg. Mix together and evenly distribute throughout hair. Cover head with a plastic cap or use an old plastic grocery bag and wrap hair with wet hot towel. Let sit for 15 minutes. Shampoo as usual.

This condition works miracles on thick, dry, lifeless hair. Plus you can make salad dressing out of the left over mix.

Who is The Budget Fashionista?

March 15, 2005 12:08 PM | | Posted in AustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

Why does it seem that your wit seems to fail you when you need it the most? While waiting in line to register for a high-brow, ladies who lunch, fashion event in midtown Manhattan, I overheard someone say “Who is this Budget Fashionista chick?” Apparently the person had been hearing quite a bit about yours truly and wanted to know what all the hype was about. While talking about me and my blog, I stood four feet away glued to the floor—immobilized by both the question and my lack of in action.

So, I spent the whole night coming up with witty answers to the question. Here is what I ...

More Budget Fashion Tips

March 11, 2005 01:36 PM | Comments (0) | Posted in Coupon+DealsAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

Everyone knows I dish budget tips and fashion advice for those of us without trust funds (or those with trust funds they can’t access yet).  However, my life as stylist, fashion editor, and general feel-good Fashionista has taught more than how to score the latest trends for cheap. I’ve learned tasty bits of wisdom like fashion is cheap, but style is priceless and that pointed toed shoes give you bunions.  Below are some more lessons I’ve learned.

The Budget Fashionista’s Rules of Engagement

  • 1. Self confidence is the new black
  • 2. Fake bags are only as good as their owners
  • 3. Target is ...

Shopping with a Friend: Kathy and Lloyd Shops Chelsea

March 9, 2005 10:24 AM | | Posted in Coupon+DealsAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

Yesterday, I went shopping with my fabulously snarky, gay-male best friend Lloyd. Every Fashionista needs a Lloyd in the their lives, someone whose heighten sense of style and witty off the wall comments makes an horrible, icy New York City blizzard seem a bit more bearable.

Reminiscing about our Midwestern roots, Lloyd and I headed to the trifecta of NYC mass market shopping experiences—T.J. Maxx, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and Filene’s Basement—on 18th and 6th Ave in Chelsea. We spent hours in the stores, making fun of the clothing (sort of like Donna Reed on crack) and looking for ways ...

When Bad Sweaters Happen to Good Guys

March 7, 2005 11:47 AM | | Posted in Fashion+BeautyAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

Bill Cosby wore them. Michael J. Fox had a whole closet full of them. Arsenio probably got canceled because of them. Yep, we’re talking about ugly sweaters.

Every guy has these sweaters somewhere in their closet. Maybe they were given to them by their senile Aunt Martha, who thought burgundy, gold, and green were really “smart” colors. Or maybe you purchased them during your stint as a manager at the local Chess King. Or maybe your mom bought them to help “brighten” up your wardrobe. Whatever the case, every guy (and their unfortunate partners) has been affected by an ugly ...

A Concerned Reader Speaks out about Ugg Boots

March 4, 2005 12:01 PM | | Posted in Fashion+BeautyAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

An angry email from a dedicated reader…..

Dear Budget Fashionista,
Your article “Five Things To Throw Out Of Your Closet Right Now” failed to mention the appropriately named “Ugg boot”. The low rise jeans (even though you look like a plumber when you bend over) and the little jelly shoes (at least that is what we called them in the 80’s) can stay, but the boot, must be thrown onto the back porch next to your snow shovel (only to be used again during the next storm.)
As my comments are crucial to the survival of foot fashion I can only hope they are published.
Thank You
Dedicated ...
