In last week’s Fashion Trends newsletter, I wrote about my past fashion mistakes. Seems like we’ve all have a few fashion mishaps lurking in our closets. Here are some responses from readers.
“my fashion disaster was definitely tye-dye. My mom dressed me in it from head to toe. rainbow tye-dye! ugh! someone save me!”
“my white and black lipstick and matching outfits phase
-my fuschia lipstick and matching trousers phase
-my “sexy” red nails matching my not-sexy cigarrete pack
-the stirrups…been there done that
-the flashdance “cut-up-all-my-sweatshirts” phase
-the sequin ...
Readers of the newsletter know that this week I’ve been reliving my fashion mistakes of the not too distance past. Ironically, this little trip down memory lane coincided with the brilliant Old Navy campaign featuring songs from my fashion troubled youth and the chocolate brown skirt of my dreams. I’ve been on a mission for the past 3 weeks or so to find the perfect ankle length chocolate brown “Boho” skirt.
I’ve searched high (Saks and Barneys) and low (Target and Wal-Mart), yet couldn’t find the skirt. Then this past Tuesday, while watching the “Rob and Amber Get Married Special”, ...

They come from far and wide, bringing flawless tans and 5 carat princess cut rings. No, I’m not talking about the Oscars or the Emmys. I’m talking about the semi-annual Lily Pulitzer Annual Warehouse Sale (June 15-18th, 2005). The warehouse sale, held twice a year in Valley Forge, PA, draws fans from as far away as Japan.
Fashionistas thinking about heading to this sale beware! First, the warehouse sale is held at the Valley Forge Convention, which looks like it was THE place to be seen . . . in 1972. ...

While in the neighborhood, stay ahead of the fashion curve by browsing through some of the new boutiques poping up around in far East Village/Alphabet City.
Read MoreDear Budget Fashionista,
I am a poor male undergrad who is tired of seeing hordes of banal A&E, Hollister, and Abercrombie zombies wandering my campus. I adore the classic styles of silver screen icons like Cary Grant and Clark Gable. How can I make a classical appearance with a minimum amount of damage to my pathetic wallet?
Dear Desperate Dresser -
College campuses, once the seat of all things cool and hip, now look like something the GAP threw up after a wild night of partying at the local bar. No longer is college the place to experiment and try out new things. Campus fashion ...
At the end of each season, I sell my clothes to a local consignment shop. Each consignment shop sets its own guidelines for the type of designers, styles, sizes and quality they prefer. You and the consignment shop enter into an agreement by which the shop sells your goods for a percentage of the price (selling fee). This fee usually runs between 30 to 70% of the item’s selling price. As with everything, this can be negotiated depending on the quality and the designer. For example, if you have a high-end Hermes bag you would like to sell, you could probably negotiate a lower ...
Read MoreOne of the best places to get the designers we love at prices we can afford is to head to consignment shops. Consignment shops are boutiques that sell high quality, brand new and gently used clothing in relationship with the owner of the piece. With the rising cost of the Euro, consignment shops are great option for those looking to score a Chanel suit for less than the cost of a new car.
One of my favorite consignment shops is Rodeo Drive Resale. Located in LA (13727 Ventura Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423, ph. 818.783.2330, Toll Free: 1-888-MY-RESALE) and online at
Read MoreLast month I wrote about the wonderful online store Alternative Outfitters. Although I’m a fashion-centered, leather-wearing, fur-loving (Salvation Army and thrift stores of course) stylista, I do shop at online and offline stores specializing in faux fashion and you should, too. I noted from my perch during NYC’s Fall 2005 Fashion Week, that fur is going to be EVERYWHERE this fall. Most of can’t afford to purchase a Y & Kei fur stole, but we can purchase a faux stole from Fabulous Furs.
Or a pair of Saratoga Boots from MooShoes. Founded in 2001 by sisters Erica and Sara Kubersky, ...
