New York Magazine’s Guide to Sales and Bargains

February 16, 2006 06:58 AM | Comments (0) | Posted in Guides

For those of you looking for additional resources on saving big in NYC, head to New York Metro’s Guide to Sales and Bargains. Even the most ruthless New York Bargain Shoppers will find the guide, at the very least, interesting reading. That is, if you can get past the ads for Bergdorf Goodman and Diane Von Furstenberg.

In Markdown-onomics, author Maureen Tkacik, chronicles the mark-down life of a green blazer at Saks Fifth Avenue ($410 in August to below $100 right before Christmas) and offers this assessment on leopard printed fashion:

There, on a hanger, was a camisole, covered in ...

Shopping Guide to Los Angeles

February 5, 2006 01:53 PM | Comments (5) | Posted in Guides

What’s not to love about L.A.? You’ve got the beach, the sun, and the stars. Even traffic on HWY 10 is bearable when you’re blasting the latest Outkast CD in a convertible in February. Shopping in L.A. is an endurance sport because of the sheer distance between each point. In an effort to save gas and sanity, build your day around sections of the city. For example, if you know you are going to be in the Venice area, plan to do all of your shopping and activities in that area on the same day. Save tourist traps like the Santa Monica promenade (which is nice in an outdoor mall sort of ...

There has been quite a bit of attention paid (deservedly so) to bras, but your lower half deserves as much attention as the upper part. So, in part 2 of our underwear guide, we give tips on keeping your junk in your trunk.

From the most your willing to pay for a pair of designer jeans to your own personal shopping philosophy, TBF’s annual, somewhat scientific, shopping survey gives you a glimpse into the shopping habits of your fellow shoppers. In our first survey conducted last year, over 800 readers shared their shopping habits, advice and tips. This year our goal is to have even more respondents!

The survey takes approximately 10 minutes (more if you decided to write your own, shopping related version of War & Peace) and all answers are ANONYMOUS. There’s no right or wrong answers, so feel free to be ...

Budget Fashionista Heading to LA

December 28, 2005 06:37 AM | Comments (11) | Posted in Guides

So I’m heading to LA in mid January (since the increase of TV stuff, I’ve been back and forth quite often) and of course plan to do tons of shopping. My goal is simple: to gas up the rental car, pop in a CD of Sheryl Crow’s greatest hits, and hit the mean shopping streets of LA. Here’s my basic shopping plan so far:

  • Beverly Hills Loehmann’s
  • Queen Bee of Beverly Hills (trunk show if scheduled)
  • Camaro Outlet (if I can hitch a ride)
  • Last Chance Boutique
  • Rodeo Drive Resale (love the purses)
  • DNA
  • FIDM Scholarship store
  • Lisa Kline Outlet
  • and a brief wishful walk down Melrose

I’m looking ...

Retailers Go Cheap this Holiday Season

December 15, 2005 12:56 PM | Comments (0) | Posted in Guides

Looks like this is shaping up to be a very budget friendly holiday season. According to a recent AP article, retailers have started to slashed prices at local malls and stores to reel in snowbound shoppers in the Midwest and Northeast. The jury is still out on whether it’s working, but increased markdowns and a plethora of coupons give the impression that retailers are doing all they can to get us into the doors. I was going to list the stores with markdowns, but it’s pretty much every major (and minor) retailer.  Lord & Taylor has coupon books available in store with coupons for up to ...
