Oscar Fashion Wrap Up: Elvira Would Be Proud

March 2, 2005 12:01 PM | Comments (0) | Posted in Fashion+BeautyAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

It appears that the Goth kids at my high school were fashion visionaries. Everyone at the Oscars seemed to be channeling Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, with black dresses and smoky make-up on everyone from Salma Hayek to Kirsten Durst. It seemed like the most colorful thing at the Oscar’s was Chris Rock’s language. There was some who dared to wear color (Charlize, Renee, and Kate & Cate (Winslet and Blanchette), but for the most part the dresses were so boring that I think Cher’s butt cheeks would have been a welcome respite from the Black Sea. Some of the dresses were so boring, I doubt ...

Budget Shopping Tips

March 1, 2005 12:01 PM | | Posted in Fashion+BeautyCoupon+DealsAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

Know what looks good on you. This is the essence of a true fashionista. Just because it looks great in a magazine doesn’t mean it will look great on you. Be honest with yourself about your body. It will save you time and money.

Get to know the names of sales associates. Sales associates are a great source for information on upcoming sales. They might even let you use their employee discount - as happened to me once at The Gap.

Pay for everything with cash. This way, the satisfaction of the purchase will last longer than your next credit-card bill.

Head to the outlets. Shopping at the ...

Celebrity Fashion On the Decline?

February 25, 2005 12:01 PM | Comments (0) | Posted in Fashion+BeautyAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

Fashion is expensive, Style is free . . . unless you are a celebrity. Celebrities are the ultimate Budget Fashionistas. Not only do they get most of their clothing on loan for free, but now many of them get PAID to wear certain designers. Think Nicole Kidman is wearing that beautiful Chanel suit because she actually likes Chanel? Maybe. But I bet she likes the $4 million dollar paycheck she gets to hawk Chanel No.5 perfume for three years even more.

Or how about Star Jones, whose seat next to Barbara on the ABC daytime show “The View” is rumored to be in jeopardy because she promised ...

Win a Fabulous Fake Fur Coat

February 24, 2005 12:01 PM | | Posted in Fashion+BeautyContestsDeustchSpanish

** THIS CONTEST IS OVER **

I receive several emails from fashionista’s looking for great fake fur coats in prep for Fall 2005. One the BEST places to find fake furs is Fabulous Furs. They have a wide range of products for men, women, children, and yes, even your dog. Furthermore, their coats are affordable for those of us who want a fur, but are “financially challenged.”

From time to time, I will bury special prizes/giveaways to the faithful readers of this blog inside postings. If you would like a little fake fur glamor for yourself, email me by this Friday at ...

New York Fashion Week: Top Ten Trends for Fall 2005

February 22, 2005 04:35 AM | | Posted in Fashion+BeautyAustraliaCanada

1. Hot Dog Colors. Ketchup Red, Mustard Yellow, Relish Green, Onion White, and Hot Dog Brown seems to be big colors for Fall.

2. Brocade. Schedule a date with your curtains. This look is best with metallic accents in the fabric. I saw a great brocade jacket, reminisce of something from Tracy Reese, on sale at Lord & Taylor for $50.00

3. Ethnic Look. As someone who is of an ethnic group, I find this trend a little annoying. Dashikis are really not for everyone. Imagine if a whole bunch of size 2 fashionista’s walking down your street wearing Dior Yarmulkes. You get the picture. ...

Yummy: Kenneth Cole Batwing Shirt

February 20, 2005 12:01 PM | | Posted in Fashion+BeautyCoupon+Deals

I love Kenneth Cole because they sell stylish shoes in size 11. I’m also in love with this shirt from their spring line. it is something about batwing sleeves that makes me feel warm and tingly in all my special spots. It is sort of like, Rainbow Brite meets Batman. Makes me want to throw on a scarf, rent a convertible for like $20 from Priceline and head down to Atlantic City blasting R.Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly”.

Stylish Vegan Clothing & Shoes: A Solution from Alternative Outfitters

February 18, 2005 12:20 PM | Comments (0) | Posted in Fashion+BeautyCoupon+DealsAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

After all the fur and leather I saw during NYC Fall 2005 Fashion week, I wanted to find some fashion alternatives for our vegan/cruelty free sistas. The online store Alternative Outfitters vegan, cruelty-free products that won’t have you looking like you just stepped out of a commune. The clothes and accessories are so stylish and inexpensive, that even fur-coat-wearing (Salvation Army), self-fashion-centered Budget Fashionistas like myself would want to do a little shopping. The vegan Espadrilles remind me of a similar pair by Marc by Marc Jacobs. Just $200 cheaper and I can wear them ...

Tara Subkoff & Easy Spirit: A Match Made in Heaven

February 17, 2005 12:15 PM | | Posted in Fashion+BeautyCoupon+DealsAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

This little tidbit is sort of related to fashion week, but not really. Apparently Tara Subkoff, the designer of Imitation of Christ, created a line of sandals for Easy Spirit. Yes, Easy Spirit. The sandals, which remind me of a pair of sandals my mom used to wear back in ‘83, are not cheap at $150 bucks a pair. Plus they look like something you could pick up at the local Payless. However, for the low-budget label whore, I say scoop a pair up before you see your grandma rockin’ a pair.
