A Special PSA Just in Time for Spring: Just Say No to the Visible Thong

April 22, 2005 12:01 PM | Comments (0) | Posted in Fashion+BeautyAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

Attention Fashionistas young and old…

Wearing your thong outside of your pants has never been in style. Yes, pop princesses like Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears have been seen rocking this look, but they are also worth millions of dollars and live in a special place called Hollywood. Turn off MTV and put your underwear back in your pants.

Tunic Tops: Spring’s Biggest Trend

April 21, 2005 01:35 AM | Comments (1) | Posted in Fashion+BeautyAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanishBritish

I’m all for the emergence of the ethnic tunic as the “must-have” item for spring. These colorful tops are comfortable, can be worn with jeans or with a skirt, and are available in all price ranges.

But enough already . . .

Another example of the over commercialization of a trend. Remember the Ugg boot? If I see another Old Navy commercial with teens wearing tunics dancing around to corny rap songs, I’m going to throw up.

Coquette Faux Furriers: High Fashion for Vegan Fashionistas

April 14, 2005 12:59 PM | Comments (0) | Posted in Fashion+BeautyAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

Info on Coquette Faux Furriers was just sent to me two days ago and I’m already plotting how to score the faux Leopard Skin Stole. Claire, the owner, started the site in 2002 to provide cruelty-free divas with sexy, glamorous accessories. It’s also a great store for Socialites in Training who don’t have the money to purchase the real thing.  The site is not as polished as another one of my alt-favorites, Alternative Outfitters, but what it doesn’t have in web savvy it makes up for in style.

P.S. Thanks Valerie M. for the tip!

Cheap vs. Chic: The Shoulder Bag by Belstaff

April 8, 2005 12:22 PM | Comments (1) | Posted in Fashion+BeautyAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

According to ever hip folks at Fashion Week Daily the bag from the British Leisure company Belstaff (think Banana Republic circa 1988), is the new “it” bag. Seen on the silver screen in the movie Interpreter by the dean of Fashionistas, Nicole Kidman, this overpriced canvas and leather bag is available at Barneys and Berdorf.

Budget Fashionistas,  save $550 bucks and purchase a similar bag at Old Navy for $24.50. It looks close enough to the Belstaff bag, which looks like something I bought about 4 years ago at the Gap. In fact, I did buy a bag exactly like the $600 Belstaff bag at ...

The Perfect Ten: Ten Things That Should Be in Every Woman’s Closet

March 30, 2005 12:01 PM | Comments (2) | Posted in Fashion+BeautyAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

It’s spring and most of us are starting to prepare for the big closet change-over. I started last week and I have a ton of things I’m selling on eBay and via my secret consignment shop weapon. As always, I double check to make sure I have at least these ten basic things in my wardrobe.

There are ten things every Budget Fashionista must have in her closet.

  • Black Suit. Either matching black skirt or black pants. Made out rayon material.
  • White Cotton Dress Shirt. This is an important closet staple and can be both trendy (wear underneath your favorite t-shirt) and classic (wear it ...

When Bad Sweaters Happen to Good Guys

March 7, 2005 11:47 AM | | Posted in Fashion+BeautyAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

Bill Cosby wore them. Michael J. Fox had a whole closet full of them. Arsenio probably got canceled because of them. Yep, we’re talking about ugly sweaters.

Every guy has these sweaters somewhere in their closet. Maybe they were given to them by their senile Aunt Martha, who thought burgundy, gold, and green were really “smart” colors. Or maybe you purchased them during your stint as a manager at the local Chess King. Or maybe your mom bought them to help “brighten” up your wardrobe. Whatever the case, every guy (and their unfortunate partners) has been affected by an ugly ...

A Concerned Reader Speaks out about Ugg Boots

March 4, 2005 12:01 PM | | Posted in Fashion+BeautyAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

An angry email from a dedicated reader…..

Dear Budget Fashionista,
Your article “Five Things To Throw Out Of Your Closet Right Now” failed to mention the appropriately named “Ugg boot”. The low rise jeans (even though you look like a plumber when you bend over) and the little jelly shoes (at least that is what we called them in the 80’s) can stay, but the boot, must be thrown onto the back porch next to your snow shovel (only to be used again during the next storm.)
As my comments are crucial to the survival of foot fashion I can only hope they are published.
Thank You
Dedicated ...

Celebrity Fashion Line:  John Malkovich

March 3, 2005 12:00 PM | Comments (0) | Posted in Fashion+BeautyAustraliaCanadaDeustchSpanish

John Malkovich is arguably one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood. Now everybody’s favorite quirky dude has his own fashion line. Yep, you can “be” John Malkovich by wearing items from his collection. For the most part the collection is pretty boring (think homeless man meets librarian), featuring items that well, John Malkovich would wear.  What is neat about the collection is the beret hats, which look great on baldies. Also 10 percent of all proceeds go to support theaters like Steppenwolf in Chicago.
